Hear the words 'Estoril' and 'Repsol Honda' and the first thing that springs to mind is probably Dani Pedrosa's infamous 2006 collision with team-mate Nicky Hayden, which took the American out of the world championship lead with one round to go.

Bizarre report and even more bizarre comments. Pedrosa will be thinking of one thing only and that is winning!!!!.

How to beat rossi and cs, easy, stick Dani on a Ducati result = WC for both Dani and Ducati lovely. As for Dani's Estoril mistake in 2006, no one is interested now, anyone bringing that up continually is just showing what a right c *nt they truly are

A year and a half since the 'incident' is a long time, and you'd expect the shock value to fall as time goes on, but I still can't beleive it happened. Far more shocking than even Mr Schumacher's tactics in F1. At least you could understand why Schumi played dirty (to try and win the title at all costs). Guess there was no way Dani and Nicky were ever going to see eye-to-eye after that and it'll be surprising if they stay as team-mates next year... Honda's PR people might want everyone to forget about Estoril 06, but it'll definitely go down in motogp history.
Any 'team spirit' at Repsol Honda also died that day and many of their problems since, in terms of finding a development direction, can probably be traced back to that. Do Dani and Nicky talk to each other directly about bike set-up and ideas for future development etc? I doubt it. They seem to just do their own things and, partly due to their riding styles, are probably pulling in different directions. Let's face it, the Repsol garage is far more split in half now than even the two tyre Fiat Yamaha garage.
Was it really that bad. If you looked at a full history of motogp hard enough I bet you could find a worse crash than that one. now theres a challenge for all of you. it is the most recent one I will give you but worst, I doubt it.
I see both of the Repsol boys doing well here. Maybe Nicky on pole but I think Casey will be tough in the race, Vale too with their top speed. Nicky really seems to be looking forward to the new engine and Dani dosen't care. I guess its cause Nicky tested it and saw its potential and Dani hasn't.

No no, i'm waiting for some good crashes from years gone by, to be remembered by people here with a better memory than me, that i've forgotten about. yes, controversial is a better way of describing that one. but if it was an honest to goodness mistake then it isnt controversial is it a mistake is a mistake, anyone can make one at any time, dani just made a mistake at the worst possible time IMO.
F2 - nicky is desperate and hoping for a miracle thats why he is interested in the new engine maybe ....
I think there's a more rational explanation to Nicky looking forward to the pneumatic engine.
We'll see at Estoril, but especially at Shanghai just how much more engine the Ducati's and Fiat Yamaha's have than the Honda's.
The whole package is very important, and yes the spring-valved engine in the RC212 is no dog, but the '08 bike was designed to have the pneumatic engine in it. Development on that bike will really hit it's stride when the new motor becomes a part of the package.
If there's one thing for certain, it's that you can't sit still in this game.
I'm sure Pedrosa is just as anxious as Hayden to have the new engine.
Dirk, cheers!! I am usaully in totall agreement of your posts. I am not so sure about Pedro being "just as anxious" though. Reason being, Pedro is 40+lbs lighter than Nicky,(sorry kilo lovers..do the conversion), and the "Repsol" 08 spring engine, that Repsol Honda is using is the "Pedro" preferred springer engine. That being said, Pedro is able to deal with the easier power response from his "preferred" engine. If HRC gives a fully potent pneumatic engine to Nicky, I believe, Nicky will outshine "Repsol's" Pedro by a long shot. I will go out on a limb and say that Repsol, being Spanish, will delay the pneumatic sponsor funds as long as they can to see their Spanish boy get ahead! -151
Slideways141 is out of his mind. I believe the Dani was looking forward to the pneumatic valved engine while initially Hayden wanted to stay with the old bike. Why wouldn't Pedrosa want more power to be on par or above the Ducati. Honda is no slouch when it comes to engine building so I'm sure the power will be accessable. It's only since Pedrosa has been back that the development of the bike is back on track. This will likely be Hayden's last year with the Honda Factory as the younger guys such as Dovi will show him up as the season continues. Honda's AMA SB team will be looking for top riders for next season. ;)

That was then and this is now. in 2006 Estoril was the penultimate race and therefore tense. This year, its early in the season and so there is less at stake.
Team-mates always battle hard because that's the only real measure of anybody, how they do against someone on the same machinery. In F1, I distinctly remember fierce battles between Senna and Prost in the McLarens, often taking both off the track. Hayden Pedrosa is just more of the same.
