Toseland signs for 2009!

James Toseland may have only competed in two MotoGP races, but the Englishman has already reached an agreement to remain at Tech 3 Yamaha for the 2009 season.

Thats good, we need to see him there for another season to see what he's realy got when he's settled with the team and mechies..... positive response, ye.

FANTASTIC NEWS!

James has really rocked the establishment, to be fair so has Lorenzo but JT is on inferior equipment, so lets see what happens from this wekend onwards when james is on the pneumatic engine, it will certainly be a thrilling battle between Lorenzo, Rossi and JT.

I just can't wait, go for it James make England proud!

This opportunity is fantastic news. It gives James a real chance to impress even further. Next year he will know the circuits a bit better. (he's having to learn them on the PS2 at the moment- his words to me last week!!!!) I would also like to add that having been able to grab a few words with him in Bury St Edmunds last week, he really comes across as an absolute gent. The shop was packed with punters wanting a bit of his time which he gladly gave, and then he went on to play a number of songs on a Grand Piano that had been set up in the front of the shop. Brilliant. This guy is a real ambassador to the sport in a way that Carl Fogerty could only dream about.

well, to be honest, after Toseland has signed a deal with Yamaha Tech 3 I couldn't belive that, couse there was powerful Ducati and trustful Honda but he choose poor Yamaha and poorest team on paddock (in 2007) so that was hard to belive that's wasn't a joke. And this year is showing Yamaha, Michelin and Tech3 squad as motivated as they can. Poor message for Guintoli who could achieve here in '08 some result at last!
The best thing is that there're 2 ambicious and chillouted riders.

i thought he already signed a two year deal when it was anounced he was going to motogp last year.

anyway, this is good news for JT as he doesn't have to worry about where he is going next year and concentrate fully on his development this year.
also it is someone, we british can be proud of for once

@ Seeta

Why is his comitment to tech 3 dumb? Granted Haydens ride is up for grabs but thats going to Dovi next year. As to the factory Yamaha i dont think Rossi would be to chuffed if his seat was being discussed this early in the season even if he has signed for next year.

I'm really happy for James as he is really mixing it up with the established moto gp regulars, and putting a few noses out of joint whilst doing it.

just got 6th place on the grid for race 2moro at a track he's never been before speaks more volumes to me. Beating many factory teams. Go JT.

Since when did a Brit rider get such a chance to develop? Certainly not recently and certainly not on such a competitive machine. Congratulations JT

Some people here really don't think...

@Seeta first, perhaps the works teams are not prepared to sign Toseland, yet, they are the ones that make these decisions after all, not the riders. And for all we know the rides at the factory Yamaha and Honda teams may already be gone there has just been no announcement yet and probably wont be until later in season.

Second, that Tech 3 yamaha has been pretty competitive and Toseland has performed well so far on circuits he has never raced at before. With full support from Yamaha things can surely only get better for Tech 3.

...cont

Toseland has secured a ride until the end of 09 meaning he can now fully concentrate on his development as a GP rider and not worry about contracts and securing rides later in the year.

I don't think it was "dumb"

The only thing that has annoyed me with this thread was posted by colin davis. Go for it james, make england proud.
Spoken like a typical englishman.
What I would have said is ... go on James, make Britain proud.
Its people like you that take the GREAT out of Great Britain.

As for signing for tech 3 for next year, I think its excellent news. JT is a talent that Britain has not seen for many years. Nice one...

Way to go James! Tech 3 did right considering that they have just renewed with Yamaha for another 2 years. If Edwards does decide to retire from Motogp at the end of the year he'll also lead rider.

Dumb?

More like dead smart.

What better ride is he going to get? Yam will do everything they can to keep Rossi where he is and it looks like they've set off in the right direction for that.

Honda? Their golden boy is Dani-the-dwarf and that ain't gonna change.
Plus they didn't look out for Toseland when they had the chance, didn't have the faith to put him into MotoGP. He'd be a fool to forget that and one things he's not is a fool.

All the other big marques have problems.

This gives him space to have a little bit less pressure, a little bit more time to learn IF he needs it. That works for JT, Tech 3 & Yam.
What's not to grab with both hands?

Fantastic, we should all be proud of him and look forward to success!Seems to me that Herve's team has a really friendly atmosphere that JT is thriving in- I guess you dont always get that in a full blown factory team-many a top rider has tried and failed as there must be more pressure to perform.
All the best to him
