A bitter Capirossi lost his Ducati Marlboro ride to Marco Melandri after a difficult 2007 season, in which he salvaged one race win whilst team-mate Casey Stoner charged to ten victories and the world title.
Any performance clause in his contract must be relative to his team mate otherwise it would be unworkable to set a points target not knowing if the bike can achieve it. I think and hope that his ride with Suzuki in 2009 is safe.
Not necessarily... otherwise both riders could be riding around at the back of the field at every GP but still get a new contract because their results were closely matched!
At least if there was some sort of points criteria included the team could kick them both out.
This kind of contract is ridiculous. So they demand results from the rider but what guarantee has the rider that the bike is competitive? Maybe Suzuki managed some good results last year but this is 2008 and as we have seen things have changed a bit.
So what would the rider do? Place a term on his contract about X amount of braking stability, Y amount of horsepower, and Z amount of user-friendliness? Ridiculous... This is way too one-sided.
I think the rider would be just as pleased as the team to be able to get out of a contract if he's doing really badly (unless he's just riding for the money).
Rossi almost certainly had a clause in his first Yamaha contract saying they could split after one year if it was a disaster.
Given that Hopkins was pushing the Suzook up pretty close to the front during his last year with the team, I would not be surprised if there were some sort of points target in Capirex's contract. Under Hopper the bike has proven to be, shall we say, not necessarily a winner, but not a back marker either. I just wish Suzuki would get serious about MotoGP like they do in AMA SBK and WSBK.

think that it's all questions go to Suzuki factory. They need to watch Yamaha and Honda job and do it the same way. They didn't care about GSV-R project so it's paying off now. Capirossi, Vermeulen or Hopkins are ready to win but the bike isn't. simple.

As a person who can develop the GSV-R and provide the feedback necessary to get this bike on the podium, Loris has few equals. Conversly, Ben Spies can almost certainly kiss his GP factory ride goodbye. Not only does it look like Suzuki will resign Loris, but Ben will not even win his own series.
Maybe there is still a chance for Ben? Originally most thought Ben would take the bike from Loris, but maybe he'll take the bike from Chris?

As I see it the contract is easy to understand, if Suzuki want to keep him they will, if not they will get rid of him!

Capirossi is not a test rider. He does bring experience, but he needs to show the world that Suzuki can built bikes and compete with the best.
To keep a relationship healthy you need clear goals. Other than the minimum performance targets there are surely also "bonus" terms. Like in 2004 when Rossi got his bike from Yamaha for his performance.
Depending on the relative status (CV) of the Rider or the Manufacturer, everyone can state in a contract what they expect. It works both ways. If the Racer wins, the Factory wins... Win/Win ;)

Team green i agree ... why would loris want to stay if the bike was crap? suzuki s record doed not put them in a position to be picky with riders
Loris is not very good looking and is also married, so they should keep Chris who is handsom and single, Loris should retire and give the young riders a chance such as Kalio who beautiful and manly like a real man should be

Could be interesting, I know that American Ben Spies is gunning for a seat with Suzuki after back to back AMA Superbike titles, although doesn't look like it will be a good season for Spies this year in Superbike. Will Suzuki dump Chris for Ben?

Comparing Loris to Hopkins is unrealistic. Yamaha have now got four riders capable of locking out the podium, and if u factor in the capabilities of Stoner and Pedrosa then the Suzuki riders this year will have a harder time finishing higher than seventh, eight if Hayden gets his act together.
I really hope that we do not get another Yank in the championship as other nations have riders as talented as Ben Spies. The Suzuki in the AMA is so dominant its pathetic.
