Edwards switched from the factory Yamaha team to the satellite Tech 3 outfit for what was rumoured to be his final grand prix season, but the change of environment - combined with the increased competitiveness of the 2008 version of the YZR-M1 and its Michelin tyres - has convinced the Texan that MotoGP is where he wants to be.
The AMA?He was surely hoping to avoid that ever since he began? I as a USA bloke, have always considered the AMA series inferior. As recently as 30 years ago though, everybody raced Daytona. And now?No one from Europe bothers with it at all. And as it "NASCAR-izes"even more, the series will only become more "marginalized" and less significant in the world of motorcycle roadracing--if that is possible? I hope Colin finds a home wherever he fits. And I wish him well.Maybe it will best to retire when time at the "World" level is done?G.
colin was awesome in world supers but he really is well past his useby date in motogp, he should be shown the door for more younger talent rather than being allowed to earn towards his retirement fund . the series is supposed to be for the best in the world and colin has more than had his chance but it is time colin . onya way and thanks for the great superbike races .

I am not a fan but hope he stays. But, with one condition. Quit doing that stupid ******* hand gesture.

mark... "the series is supposed to be for the best in the world"
So surely anybody who finishes below him in the chamionship shouldn't be there right?
Edwards is a national MotoGP treasure. By far one of the most poular riders in MotoGP and hopefully he ain't going anywhere! When he does eventually go he will be sorely missed!

Nice guy he may be, but another blunt year and it won't be his decision. He really has to stop just going backwards during the races and pull together a sting of decent results.

who knows what's going on with this man? fast, let's have that wsbk determination back. hoping for a CE rebirth and more loco gestures.
whenever done with motogp, a wsbk return would be sick!
I HAD hoped that Colin would go back to WSBK for a season or two, like Bayliss, and you know that after his last title on the SP2 he did sign for Ducati but then MotoGP came a knocking. I would love to see him replace Bayliss on a Duke for one last hurrah.
No matter what anyone thinks, the mans got game.

I'm suprised he would consider going to the AMA instead of WSBK - after being at last weekend's AMA race, I'd say the series looks to be on the ropes (pathetic attendance). Unless he gets Ben Spies' spot on the Suzuki factory team (since Ben will likely be on Suzuki's MotoGP team next year), he'd have a tough time winning races anyway. Of course AMA is going to a different format next year so who knows.
I like the guy a lot but I would find it hard as a team owner to give him a slot vs. a younger rider with more of an upside. His unfortunate finish at Assen 2006 was probably the closest he'll come to winning in MotoGP.

In past interviews, he said that he was considering going back to the AMA because he was getting tired of the travel and wanted to be full time back in the States. He also mentioned that he wanted to ride for Yamaha on Michelin tires. With the upcoming changes to the AMA, it is doubtful that he would return. That is too bad. I think it would have been fun to have him running in the AMA.

MotoGP should be for the best in the world. On that I concur. But MotoGP as in life. The best do not always get the job.Had Colin gotten the HRC ride that he should have gotten, who knows?I'll agree that time is against him at this point. But so far this year "Old Man" Capirossi has placed/paced better than his young and very talented teammate. So maybe the "Old Dog" will be kept a little longer? If not on a Yamaha, someone else may benefit from his wisdom/experiences?Perhaps someone is more than we realize? James Toseland has been very impressive this year wit the other new guys. Maybe he will be the decider at years end to keep his teamate? Just some thoughts.G.

afx, there are many that are below colin that should not be there as well, vermulan, west, capriossi, hopkins for all different reasons . clean the crap out whether they are nice guys or not .you cannot deny how much better the younger crop of riders actually are once they get there head around it .

I had seen Biaggi giving the horned goat sign. Had Edwards or any other rider done that?

Gammaman, agree with most of what you say. Apart from the fact that european won daytona this year.....
What has age got to do with the fact of if he can ride fast??? There are plenty of guys that will never see the front row of grid, but colin gets there regulary. If he goes, then over half the field below him should go too! Without people like him, Rossi, hayden and dare i say it, Lorenzo, then moto gp would have no personality at all!!
How many guys keep on watching for the press conference after the race/qualifying? If it was likes of just pedrosa and stoner with there mono tone PR bull then i would turn off everytime!

Well i would love to see him back in World Superbikes, he seemed to have a lot more success there and he also seemed a lot happier. Lets face it apart from Troy Bayliss there is'nt anyone there to match Edwards. Haga has had his day he struggles just to finish two races in a day, Checa isnt doing too bad, Biaggi is a joke, Corser is past his sell by date, where is the strength in the field? Colin could walk back into WSB and do exactly the same as Bayliss. I would sooner see him on the top step every week than as a permanent midfield make up the numbers rider like he is in Moto GP.

Morphine, True about the 600"superbike" class,I ?At Daytona.Funny regardless of what the "official" stance is.Most motorcycle roadracers here do not consider that the "real" race. And I pay little to no attention to it anymore.I really haven't at all since about, oh maybe when Troy Corser was sent with Ducati early in his career? And truly,we would post ourselves to the "tube" in the days of a "retired" KR 1 with his young teammate Eddi Lawson in tow!It was so exciting, and the air was seemingly electric. Much the same as any motorcycle race in Spain today!I used to even go to AMA nationals when possible. That will probably never happen again, and I live less than 4 hours from VIR!
