'Foreign set-up' puts Edwards on pole.

A 'completely foreign' bike set-up transformed Colin Edwards' Chinese Grand Prix fortunes and helped hand the Tech 3 Yamaha team its first MotoGP pole position since 2002.

Remarkably similar to what Rossi is running.....

Really??

Thats funny as from what I have been reading on here is that Edwards was always using Rossi's set up, as VR had developed the bike when they were in the same team last year.
But Edwards said
"I haven't used this set-up in all my time at Yamaha"

I cant understand why if VR was using this set up and that CE was always slower than him why he would use it earlier?

this weeks mcn had a piece about rossi setting up his yamaha with weight on the rear, like stoner does, in order to get the best out of th bridgestones. they back the claim up by looking at the swing arm adjustment position. Until now the 3 michelin m1 riders have had their swing arm adjusted to put more weight on the front than rossi.

Apparently, rossi only went with the set-up because bridgestone has such a good front tyre that it can work with less weight on it, but it feels weird (other ducati riders don:t like it, one reason why they are struggling so much). The michelin guys probably didn:t need to do that kind of set-up before, because of a better rear tyre, but guess when edwards suddenly got rear traction problems yesterday yamaha might have said 'try this, it's working for rossi now'?

If the mcn piece was correct then Lorenzo and Toseland were running more normal set-ups, and Lorenzo isn:t exactly struggling for speed.... then again he's had a few (big) rear tyre traction problems this weekend hasn:t he???

Thanks team green, maybe that because the Yamaha has a much more
powerful engine this year?

So then can we assume is that Rossi is setting his bike like Stoner now?

You're right there Lucifer, the (slightly inflamatory) headline was 'Rossi uses Ducati set-up' or words to that effect.

Basically they said that when Rossi went to Bridgestone he asked for 'the same tyres as stoner', presumably meaning same compounds etc, but to get them to work as effectively as stoner does (at least before the last two rounds) Rossi's had to run the same back-end heavy bike set-up.

Interesting. Maybe that's why Rossi sat jokingly behind Edwards on his bike, as if to say "need some more weight on the back"?

too Funny...

"who cares who's using who's setup"

well wayne when you read comments made by you like the one below

"it sounds to me that ducati are struggling and that stoner couldnt setup a dvd player"

stoner should be given credit for it and not rossi

Hopefully we can have a Yamaha 1-2-3-4 with Pedrosa next and Casey moaner bringing up the rear. What I want to see is Marco beating Casey on a regular basis, that would really dent his ego

Well done Colin, he thoroughly deserves this and I hope he has a good race tomorrow. Never whinges that bloke just gets on with it, he's not a big head like the usual yanks.

JT is still impressive but track knowledge is showing at the moment.

Timbo - totally agree with everything.
Have to say I feel neutral about Waxy boy ( JT ) - he is doing so above the expectations though sp have to give him credit...wonder if Yamaha would've been where it's now if Rossi didn't join 3 y ago?
