Rossi insists second a success.

Rossi insists second a success.

After qualifying an uncharacteristic ninth on the grid, it took a late night by the Fiat Yamaha engineers to get Valentino Rossi's Catalan Grand Prix hopes back on track.

Still leading then no problem!...

Good job Casey had rear grip issues otherwise Dani and Rossi would have been in for one hell of a large portion of whoopa$$ today. Both riders can consider themselves extremely fortunate indeed. Bring on Donnington where perhaps Rossi can repeat last years win...sorry I forgot he didn't win did he, that was Casey and Dani the year before...

Really enjoyable racing. I'm a Stoner supporter but Valentino is the master craftsman. I think Stoner pulled out his overtaking move towards the end of the race too early, allowing Rossi to sit there and snipe him at the end. It was great to see them sitting on top of each other for so much of the race. Casey's bike wasn't working 100% but a lot of it plainly came down to Rossi's aplomb under pressure. The Ducati wasn't able to just run away down the straights either - they looked pretty well matched on top speed.

I can't see Ducati taming the beast to the extent that would be needed to win the championship this year but I'm looking forward to more, closer racing between V and C.

I think Rossi was so happy with 2nd because he sees Stoner as the real threat to the championship. Dani was uber fast but his weaknesses are well documented here. Casey is getting on top of the Ducati and now Rossi can guage Stoners strengths on equal tyres. To finish in front of the World Champion (who won the 2007 race) on the same tyres from so far back is a great result for Rossi.

@ Monty Cowan. Rossi won the from 2000 - 2005 at Donington theoretically? without the yellow flag in 2003 he would have, but that's irrelivant seeing as he's won 5 times in the big class there (including a masterclass in the ******* rain in 2005) if anyone i still would have money on Rossi doing it at Donny

I thought Rossi's behaviour after the race was bizzare - he was bordering on the hyperactive. Its hard to tell if its part of his act or not.

It would be hilarious if Pedrosa won the title on Michelins.
I wonder if Rossi will then go to Ezpletea demanding a move back to Michelins.

Ah Monty..

Was it not in 2006 that Rossi came 2nd...therefore beating stoner with a broken wrist?

Yep...i think im right again

As for pedrosa winning the title on michelin's, if rossi has been able to make a strong title bid and not been set back by the tyre's or the bike, i don't think it would p**s him off as much as last season.

Just a quick reminder...who's top of the championship still?

Wait till the next round, if pedro doesn't get away and has to battle, i don't see him winning...look what happened in le mans and mugello.

Rossi's post race comments were that he enjoyed the battle.

What battle

Rossi had Stoner's number all along. Its Rossi putting on his show again - fooling us with what was a 'great battle'.

Why do you like to waste your energy by explaining to those dumbs I would like to mention once again for the last time:

Yamaha's racing department boss Masao Furusawa says the Japanese squad will renew Valentino Rossi's contract this year.

He added: "Valentino can ride a Yamaha for as long as he wants to, while he manages to stay at the front."

Furusawa said Rossi's frustrating season was down to Yamaha not giving him a good enough bike.

"It was Yamaha at fault, not Rossi's," he added.

=> Now please keep quiet

Aaaah there is Monty the coward again....big mouth before the race starts but in the afterchat when Moaner doesn't finish first there is no Monty to say he is wrong AGAIN....where was your red storm dude......hahaha

Ok..ontopic.....I think these season will be Rossi vs Pedrosa...maybe Lorenzo if he is gonna race like he did in the beginning.
Stoner is -50 already...no contender for this year title.
And i don't see Stoner win in the next rounds.

by V and C I take it you mean Vermeulen and Casey because he ain't no competition for Rossi and Pedrosa...he's 50 points down and they are not halfway through the championship yet...I'm afraid Casey should be more worried about Edwards and JT than Rossi and Pedrosa...especially with all the fast tracks coming to an end....Mucho gusto Vale and Da******

yes. right...Vale came from the back of the grid, passed many riders, hopped Casey on lap 9 and stayed 8 laps in front of him, then decided to finally go back to the third place, stayed 7 laps behind him to then pass Stoner on lap 24 (a great braking move btw) and finished second.

sounds to me and to many others like Rossi just couldn't shake Casey: Vale has an IMMENSE ego and he would have just gap Casey if it was possible for him to do so...

The most important thing to remember Casey's attorney is the fact the fans of No.46 can only whinge about how their man beat your client rather than the reality that Danni's Honda had everyones number today. It's better for them to prove how great their man is versus your client rather than accept the man second in the championship pooped on everyone today (I will go check out what anti Danni filth has been posted on the Danni wins thread now)

It was a great race to watch for second place, and all should be happy with the result of only one round out of many.

Casey's attorney

I believe you are quite correct - "Rossi just couldn't shake Casey"

He was unable to lap any quicker than DP or CS by lap 9 and was resigned to a quite acceptable 2nd place by that time.

However, his timing on when to make the move that would stick, ensuring that 20 points were his was truly Inspired !!

When all is said and done, it is Rossi's racing abilities which sustain his legendary status.

Agree with Casey's attorney.

Rossi tried to make a gap with Casey but his pace wasn't fast enough. BUT what Rossi makes Rossi is that he followed Casey for a coupple of laps to see where casey is fast/less fast and planned his attack on that.
Resulting 20 point what the max was for Rossi.

If Rossi was on first row and Pedrosa had headstart i believe Rossi still couldn't follow Pedrosa....he was freaking fast yesterday.

Blubber-11 races to go
- Much can Change!!

I'm not sure a 50 pt deficit is enough to write CS off at this stage - he may have his faults, but he's a determined young fellow and will be fighting hard at every race for the remainder of the season.

You make a fair point about the fast tracks being behind him now, he probably regrets not turning them to his advantage. It is right now that he and Ducati need to address the bike's issues (you know, the ones he mentions week after week), can't believe that they cannot acheive Yamaha/Honda flexibilty and nimbleness.

Read on this forum that there would not be much further development on the 2008 bike -is that true ? - Madness

What most of the stoner fans are missing is that on the penultimate lap Rossi was nigh on 7 tenths of a second quicker than Casey...check analysis on Motogp if you 're struggling with this detail...Rossi played him...no question...
Dani was everyones daddy yesterday....
