A three-day testing outing with Ducati alongside Vittoriano Guareschi at Mugello in Italy has prompted speculation that retired MotoGP star Sete Gibernau could make a shock racing return.
More like the same reason why Max Piaggi was called in to test ride the GP 8 to sort out the problems in year and in 09.

sete retired with personal problems. now he is divorced i hope he has his head straight and can come back the force he was in 2004/2005 when he challenged rossi regularly on arguably inferior machinery.
time will tell, as the bar has been seriously raised since he was last in the mix, but i wish him all the luck.
yeah, I somehow didn't like Sete before couse I'm fan of Rossi. Also Sete was for me too light emotionaly (offend too many times) and has too big ego but now I realised that judging somebody in this way is not very good. Today I can say I wish him comeback, couse I miss old guard in MotoGP if GP9 is good for him, go & get it sagitt!

675 Max Biaggi was not called in to test for Ducati, He offered and the offer was declined by Ducati. Sete has a wealth of experience, which can only be good for Ducati As to weather he will race the GP8 or 9 only time will tell forget the attention seeking headlines here on Crash, most can be read two ways. Mind you it would be good if he did return,as I am sure he would not ride to make the numbers up.

Why did Sete never get a factory seat? He was the only one ever to challenge Rossi.

he has ones in Repsol Honda but on NSR500 V2 not V4 (V2 was a lot slower on straight but fast in corners and Sete did some victory on it) and I think that after that Telefonica Movistar Honda was very close to be a factory team like Repsol. Can't forget Sete's unfinished race due to end of petrol on the last lap...on Movistar Honda. And, Spacelord, of course Marlboro Ducati is a pure factory team

Who votes for replace marco with sete??!!!

and Telefonica Suzuki GSV-R but this machine was weak also. But if you mean to get a factory seat as to be a test rider or developer than he probably was the person who, like Edwards with this year M1, was involved in early Ducati GP7 developing project.

just shows how much faith ducati has in stoners development capability.
I'd love to see him return - he was a top class rider and probably better than many in MotoGP right now. He had heart and soul and gave his all - beating rossi on several occasions. Who could forget that last coener overtake in germany to beat rossi - totally showing MotoGp at it's best. Having said all that, would he really choose to make his comeback on a bike (the Duke) that so many are struggling with? It could be the shortest comeback of all time!! Stick him on the Gresini honda (his old team) and lets see what happens
Sure Sete can come back but you guys seem to forget the curse he has over his head. After Qatar a few years back when his team screwed Rossi and Biaggi by complaining they were dusting their starting boxes and Rossi crashed out of the race. This was the last race Sete won and resulted in Rossi cursing him along the lines of: "you'll never win a MotoGP race again!" Sure enough he never won again, matter of fact he never really challenged again after that. He was like a broken man.
This revealed another quality of Rossi (besides being very good on bikes)... he's also a prophet! Curious to see if he can break the curse but I think he is old and tired, best to stay out of it now.

danum your wrong. Livio Suppo contacted both Max Biaggi and Troy Bayliss to test ride the GP8 to get a different feedback and try to find out if its the bike or the riders who are having problems. Bayliss said no thank you because he has to concentrate on his own championship and Biaggi got hurt and couldn't risk another injury, thats why they let Gibernau test ride the Desmosedici GP8 and while they were at it let him try the GP9.

to space lord and barnaba. i seem to remember sete taking over the factory v4 nsr500 and leaving the v2 in the garage for half a season, due to a rider injury, cant remember who that rider was though. though i clearly remember he got some great results straight from the word go, and said "i never wanna go back to the v2" it would be fun to see him out there, but in the grander scheme of things (i believe) if he rode for ducati, it would only be keeping the seat warm for a younger rider til next season.

Sorry to burst your bubble wayne. Because there is only a very limited number of test days the riders can use for development .. and half of those have gone already, Casey Stoner simply doesn't have the time to develop the GP9 before next year. The GP8 is still work in progress, and will continue to be developed for the rest of the season, at race meetings and remaining test days .... as will every other teams bikes. Getting another rider in to assist with development is no slight on the designated riders ability to do development work. Tadi Okada on the Repsol Honda is a classic example. Different rules for race riders and test riders old mate!!

one second further down today after another 20 laps in far from ideal conditions - 1.52.5 no qualys ... let him get back on the pace ...
people who saw him in montmeló have said he looked RIPPED ... no extra weight at all
Sete..Legend!!! I for one would love too see him return to the GP paddock.
The Guy could sometimes be abit theatrical and annoying but then again so can Rossi and then some. But even the most hardend Rossi fans would have to agree that he was a true rival to him and beat him enough to be his biggest threat, best rider to never win the crown!!.
Remember his last race (before injury really ended his season after only 6 races) in Mugello?? Awesome Pole position, and a real battle with rossi as he was just getting the GP7 sorted for himself. He would make Marco look even worse if they let him test at Brno. I will be interested to see his time's after this test!!

Interesting observation ! - Why the hell can Casey not influence things his way ?? just read a post suggesting he is too Busy ???????
Rossi has never been "too busy" to push development ( in fact, you would think that it would be a close second behind racing techniques, as far as a championship contender was concerned) I'd like to know what would out-prioritise getting the Bike Right) !!
Sete was ( was, was, was) GREAT, but at 35 and with the bar raised as it has been - I suspect he would be immensely challanged to regain his former impact - really hope to be proved wrong on this!¬
