A second American-based MotoGP round, at Indianapolis, may be joining the world championship calendar this season - but Laguna Seca will continue to host MotoGP until at least 2014 after Dorna Sports agreed to a five-year extension of a contract previously slated to end in 2009.
This is disappointing IMHO unless they can accommodate ALL 3 classes they shouldn't get a race Cheery picking the top class only on the grounds of not enough room is just not on
They can.... 2 strokes still race in CA. The thinking is the monor catorgories arnt popular cus of the no tv coverage situation so they have the local AMA series support the motogp boys cus the crowed and the tv audience will follow that.
What about the rest of the world that IS watching the lower classes?
The fact is that they (Dorna & Manufacturers) want to aggressively market MotoGP and sport motorcycling in the U.S. They just didn't have any other choice. The new Indianapolis round proves this. This track wouldn't have been built weren't for it hosting MotoGP.
The official line has always been there is only one bike meeting a year at LS so there isn't enough room for the 125 & 250 as well as the AMA stuff If this is the case they should have never been given the MotoGP race in the first place Indianapolis obviously see a business case for having all 3 classes & I wish them all the best But until LS can hold a PROPER GP meeting with all 3 classes it should defiantly not be the official GP of the USA
I'm disappointed to a small degree. I'm glad that we will have this round in the US for a while longer, but perfer it be hosted by Miller Motorsports Park.. It's a far better track in every way. It's more of a world class track instead of a nostalgia track.

1 people agree.3 people disagree.
Can't really say I agree Phill. It only happens one race a year, I don't think it will become a trend.
Glad Laguna has kept it's race. I was worried that with MotoGP going to Indy it would loose it. Nothing against ovals, but the Indy circuit is crap. Daytona is far better, to fast and dangerous for MotoGP no doubt.
Why is this circuit still on the list of venues, I'll tell you why, because of the novelty of the corkscrew, no other reason. One race, p1ss poor facilities, stuck in the middle of nowhere and not that good an attendance figure

I thought the original reason given for the 125's and 250's not coming to Laguna was because it was too expensive for them or some such (even though they are now coming to Indy)? I've gone to Laguna every year since 2005 and don't care much for AMA to be honest, but at the same time I don't know any of the 125/250 guys cause they don't seem to show the complete season on TV here. They show a race every now and then, but it's usually 2 days or even several weeks after it actually took place. I'm looking forward to seeing the Rookies cup and watching 125/250 at Indy though.

. - Laguna isn't in the middle of no where, the Monterey Peninsula is one of the most beautiful area's in the country.
Phill - last year AMA had a seperate race in September at Laguna, so "only one bike race a year" can't be it. The people around Laguna don't like the noise from the races, so they are limited on the # of events they can have per year, but there's no limit on the type of event such as bikes/cars/etc. It's just that they can only have a maximum number of events total so they try to split it up so that they can draw in all types of crows from several different sports/series.

FOOTARI:
At no point does the GP layout touch any portion of the oval except for half of T5. It's a road course, not an oval. There just happens to be a very famous oval on the premises. And if you have ever raced at Daytona, you would know that the infield portion, especially since they ruined the international horseshoe, is CRAP. So you sit on the rev-limit for awhile with a very hard wall next to you for several seconds. lame.
Daytona is a nostalgia track. Dangerous and bumpy. Its name and bike week are the only reasons they race there.
