Reigning double AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies is making his MotoGP debut this weekend, in place of the injured Loris Capirossi, while Nicky Hayden is riding with Honda's pneumatic-valve engine for the first time at a grand prix.
Impressive speed from Stoner just seemed to be able to go faster at will. Stunning performance from Spies. Toseland, what went wrong... Of all the places to have (by far) your worst qualifying of the year.
Looks like Hayden is paying back Honda, if he does well in the race Pedrosa will be on that bike in Assen.
I think Stoner might run away with this tomorrow. Hope it's closer than qualy was
WooHoo - if it's wet tomorrow this could be an epic. As an Aussie - 3 Aussies in the top 10, not too shabby for riders from the driest continent. Suck eggs, Saranwrap.

Yep Casey's flying again. Shame he's got to shake his head every time he goes past someone cos he thinks he's been held up (Marco at the final hairpin). Valentino was held up by Shinya on a quick one a lap later but didn't bat an eyelid.

Hope it's dry tomorrow - not only because I'm going but mainly for James' sake. He can't seem to get a tyre for the wet conditions, and those crashes looked like frustration more than anything to me.
What were the track conditions? Stoner seems to be totally on it. But Rossi put in some fast laps at the end. I hope it's at least a Stoner vs Rossi battle....or battle period. Spies...WOW!! I did not expect that. I guess Mladin was right and you people were wrong. Go figure

Nicky's crewchief, Pete Benson said that Nicky's on a totally new bike from what he has ridden before. He said the chassis is the same one Dani has had for the last two events and of course the air valve engine is new. The only difference between Nicky's bike and Dani's bike is the engine. Perhaps Dani's still feeling yesterday's crash?
I'm sorry to see JT's bad luck at home in QP. He'll come together tomorrow, I hope.
Nicky has nothing to lose. I hope he can translate his good QP into good results tomorrow and shut up his detractors for a bit.
Spies impressed me and I'm American. Half of the tracks our guys ride on are questionable in the dry and suicide in the wet.

Spies! 8th! (>_<)
What happened to JT? Thought wet Doni might give him an advantage...oh well..
Off to the race tomorrow - ask for FreQ in the Redgate grandstand

Funny that nobody else can ride the easy electronically controlled Ducati eh Rossi Rules? Of course all the other bikes lack electronics....
Jimmy mansi, You know that's not me. Its one of those 7 Idiots. I think Casey Stoner will have a Hard time sleeping tonight. He is probably more comfortable with all the other riders except Rossi. Also Jorge Lorenzo will have a clear view of all the riders in front of him. The next few races are going to be awesome to watch. Goooooo Roooooosssssssiiiiiii
Stoner is only fast because he pins the throttle on the apex. Riders with skill are using minimal TC to get the laptimes. The fact that Stoner couldn't even lift the 250 crown demonstates that he is a fraud.

Tanio, when was Stoner anointed king? I though Elizabeth 2 was still queen of Australia? When did it change?

Um. Go Guintoli for a change. Interesting. The different weather tomorrow could turn half the relative speeds which generated those positions on their head. Anyone betting on De Puniet getting to half distance? :-)
Must be an Aussie thing-Doohan used to winge when another rider was on the track!

fan of the sport, it wasn't bad luck that hit JT today it was the ridiculous idea of leaving it until under four minutes remained before he went out to try and improve on his time. With the added pressure of a home race and the poor conditions it was a stupid move and i'm amazed this happened.
I gather from what Suzi Perri said that JT wasn't happy with the tyres he had been using and had been struggling to find a set he liked but to leave himself with under four minutes of the session left was just one big blunder that unfortunately resulted in those two crashes and a poor grid position. But here's hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Good session! Good to see some of the guys who have had a bad season so far bouncing back a bit. DP will not be using the P/engine... NH said it hits harder and is hard to ride. This would not fit DP's smooth style. He has not been keen on it since he first tested it. Ben S did impress this morning ( in Arizona) afternoon there. He will do well in the race as he's a fighter. West seems to have benefited from his time testing in Japan. Can't wait for the race and I hope it's dry. What does the weather man say Briton friends?

Dumbest post of the week. Casey, who I'm not a fan of at all because he's a jerk on the track now, won plenty of 250cc races on second-class machinery. He lost to the factory boys who had the latest and greatest and unlimited budgets. If you refuse to give the current Champion his due, than at least try to refrain from posting your opinion, which is rubbish, as if it were some fact that you are privy to. "He's only fast cuz he pins it at the apex" RUBBISH!

Stoner is bad for the sport no question. he's a whinging baby..hope he gets well beat tomorrow don't care who by, but I for one do not want his kind of attitude being representative of this beloved sport...could potentially send it back to the dark ages ...

Typically the best riders are on the best kit however it appears it was always the other way round with Stoner...I wonder why all the years he's been racing the top teams never noticed his brillance....even last year..fortunately ducati built a peach...for his style....eyes shut, mouth open, full berries, and let the data guys do the rest....
