F1 deal to prompt Silverstone switch?

F1 deal to prompt Silverstone switch?

The announcement that the Formula 1 British Grand Prix is to switch from Silverstone to Donington Park could well provide the catalyst needed for MotoGP to move in the opposite direction.

I wonder, if the paddock is small for MotoGP, how is going to be enough for F1?

The landscape and layout at Donington makes it a fantastic track for spectators, far superior to Silverstone, which is flat and featureless. There is excellent viewing all the way from Redgate round to Coppice. Foggy Esses to the Melbourne Loop is not bad either! If you choose your spot carefully, it's possible to see far more than the corner and one straight that is all you get at Silverstone.

For spectators a move to Silverstone would not be good. There are other issues that need to be addressed - paddock, public access and re-working the 'car park section' but maybe the F1 money would accelerate this. Just keep Bernie Ecclestone away from the place.

I hate Donington. I hate the crap facilities, the slagheap viewing mounds, the boring racing it invariably produces, I hate their contempt for the fans, I hate their greed, their obscenely priced burgers, the advertising hoardings blocking any decent viewing points, their annual excuses, I hate them, and I'm glad they've got F1 cos they will get so much **** from Ecclestone and F1's prawn sandwich eating punters.
My only wish now is that they lose Motogp, which I suspect they will smuggly dump, and it can go to Silverstone (I'd prefer Brands Hatch but thats never going to happen). Yeah, its flat, and an airfield, but the racing will be so much better.

ever thought that maybe after queuing for the top of the range portal loos the thought of a dodgey prawn sarnie may not be so applealing...
now maybe if they made the drivers have one before the race it may get just a touch more exciting.....

I hope the Moto GP doesnt move to Silverstone - what a boring spectacle that will be. F1 there was bad enough!

Donnington for me is one of the more exciting of the GP races, so to move away from there would be devestating to the championship.

It's almost like the last race of the season not being at Valencia! it's just wrong!

Brands Hatch should be the home of the Motogp but there's more chance of Elvis calling a press conference to announce his return from the planet orgazoid than that happenning

So the end result is a great circuit like Donnington will get mutilated to fit in with F1
& the best motorsport in the world will have to put up with Silverstone
Donnington is a bike circuit that is good for tin top 4 wheelers & lower formula single seaters
Silverstone is a car circuit

& as for brands.....
Well IMHO it's a go kart track that is only conveniently placed for people in the London area & the south of England

If they do mutilate Donington, perhaps to accommodate a larger paddock for F1 will that mean the end of the Michael Mouse Melbourne loop and better extension to bring the circuit up to the required minimum length, that's if they have a minimum length in F1?

Well, swings and roundabouts really, donington is a p.i.s.s. take for the paying punter (notice how they made big news about site upgrade) Yet paying punter was left with unstable portapotties and overpriced cr@p no surprise there then, for this i hate donington. Silverstome on the other hand is a waste of time to view(dont forget wellies & 4x4) apart from on the telly, but is a good track to race on . Brands well not much good to view at and also comes with 'variable' conditions on long circuit. We have lost Eurosport, 250's & Donington maybe time to watch the asian tiddlywinks world championship... Ultimately poor punter has to grab the s.h.i.t end of the stick

I think it's a good track: maybe not for people there.

Check this out.

Search "Kenny Roberts Vs Barry Sheene Silverstone 1979" on youtube.

No #46..........you are not the only person! I don't know why people go on about fantastic Donnington: the racing is invariably a procession with any good racing usually being broken up by the Mouldybourne Loop and don't mention the facilities... Every year we have been promised better facilities and I and god knows how many other mugs have put up with it. Well good riddance I say. Agree about Brands though!! Mind you, with the Dorna idiots we soon may not have MotoGP worth watching (R6 cup instead of 250's anyone?) and no decent TV coverage either............!!

2 people agree.  1 people disagree.

Why do we keep having to go back to the same circuit year on year, with the right investment in facilities there is no reason why it cannot be alternated between Brands hatch, Donington, Cadwell Park and Oulton Park. That way each circuit would have to keep its facilities up to scratch or face losing the GP and fans in different parts of the country would at some point get a chance to see the racing somewhere close to home. It would also give locals a break from the noise and traffic that is generated every year when the same venue is used

MotoGP at Cadwell...........love the idea (and for sure the VR's and CS's of this world could ride it) but it will never happen. Mind you a certain Mr Palmer could really put on a good show given the financial backing. Anyone got a few million spare....?
