Dani Pedrosa has undergone a full medical examination to determine the exact nature of injuries sustained when he crashed out of a commanding seven-second lead in Sunday's wet German Grand Prix.
Don't tell me they'll permit him to ride...These docs have become far too lenient recently and they don't care much (or so it seems) when, 20 years later, these guys are suffering like crazies and half flesh/half metal.

If he hopes to be a WC he better ride. 20 years down the line he regret not riding more than a funky finger, we're talking about a finger here, not a brain injury, a finger. A finger on the clutch side, they don't use the clutch on those bikes once they've left the line, maybe in the rain but I don't think the chance for rain is very high at dry lake.

I think it's a little more than 'just' a finger injury, Wood. He has lots of sprains and bruising through-out his fingers, wrist, and ankle and he has to be a on a plane to travel half way across the world to ride a bike for a total of 5.5 hours by Thursday night at the latest, that can't be easy or rewarding with those injuries. However, I take your point that he may regret not participating but I have a lot of faith in the doctors and ultimately, they'll decide.

Yeah, he has a LOT of smaller injuries. I sure hope he heals well...
BUT, my only concern after watching his crash.....the dude need to learn how to slide down a wet track, not try and sit upright before you even hit the grass/dirt!! What was that about?? He would have much less injuries has he stayed low and flat, then the grass bump would not have 'launched' him.
Get well and race, Mr. Personality, a.k.a. Hayden-Basher. I do not care for you myself, but Casey and Vale need you to make this championship interesting.
I feel sorry for the Dani. Personally waiting is the worst, especially given the kind of competitor he is and the difference not racing will make to his championship aspirations.
What worries me are the problems caused when unfit riders are given the all clear to ride, the rider then falls again due to reduced control or trying to compensate for the injury.THey not only run the risk of further injury but the risk of hurtung another rider. Some of the injuries passed fit are cracked virtebrea, smashed ankles, flesh torn from forearms, not funny. Lorenzo broke both ankles, had an op for forearm pump then concussed himself. Its got to stop before someone injures a fit rider because they loose control. They are hard men no doubt about it but even boxers have a "second" to throw the towel in.
Let's hope he can ride, it's been a great season and won't be the same without him. Sounds like he's in bad shape though...

to the guy above who reckons they dont use the clutch after theyve left the line, erm, well actually they do! downshifting!?
Posted by danielbeugel - Unregistered (91 days ago)
When Troy Bayliss moved to Honda MotoGP he said he had to learn to race using the clutch again, something he didn't have to do on the WSBK Ducati.

They use the clutch to change down the gears, thats so they can control the engine braking and the rpm.
Let him ride! with the way CS is going, and VR will be chasing him he cant afford to not attend, even if he just collects a top 5 and keeps his points ticking over!
Dani is a big boy, almost and adult now, and can make decisions on his own. The comments about doctors or managers "letting" a rider ride seem odd since the GP's still run in the rain. If you are concerned about Dani, or others, staying healthy, then talk about banning wet races, or adding two auxillary wheels to the bike to help steady it .
Let the big boyz be big boyz. Give them the best information on the injury, the prognosis and let the rider decide whether or not to ride. "permit him to ride"? come on mate, this is a big boy game.
Does anyone still ask their Mum if they can go out and play on their bike? "Please, mum it's just a flesh wound"...

DanisMom.Your not serious. Some of these guys risk life and limb and you turn it into a joke. The riders can sometimes be their own worst enemy due to pressure. They can fall off and re mount and in blind panic without checking they even have a brake lever and go straight on at the next bend, thats what marshalls are there for. I suppose you think that marshalls are being over the top.The point is the decision should not be theirs or the teams.Savvy
It's a shame that he crashed when he was doing so well. Hope he heals quickly and that his injuries aren't too bad. Hope he can make it to Laguna and do well. Regardless of what anti-Pedrosa or Stoner fanboys say Dani is a talented rider that makes the series more interesting. It would be nice to see his compatriot Lorenzo get back to form as well. At some point it would be nice to see a four way battle for race wins.

P27: a rider that just got off on the course, full of adrenaline, trying to rejoin a race with traffic coming is not the case with Dani. Your example of a marshall during a race and a doctor or team manager don't pass Mrs P's equivalence test.
Dani, and other riders deciding when to come back from injuries... and champions must ride injured... ask someone who's had over 200 continuous starts.
My point is that the rider (Dani), not his mum, not you, not the doctor (or Dani's doctor) should make the call on riding. It is his life, and I do not feel he would endanger other riders by riding... do you?

I don't agree with you DanisMom. It shouldn't be his choice. When a hockey player, American Football or rugby player has a concussion do you think it should be up to them to play? No, because the players will always choose to play even if they are not healthy. That what the doctors are for - to save people from themselves. If he his fit to ride than ride but if no stay home and heal. Just look at poor ol' Lorenzo - he should have rested.
Of all the title contenders, Dani is by far the worst on the brakes. With his wrist and finger injuries look for him to fall off in the braking zone if he rides.

Well said Doggie.
But, don't hockey players get to come back and play with broken collar bones?, rugby players play with broken ribs? computer programmers even punch away with broken fingers. These injuries are different than head trauma. Of course players want to play - that passion to win drives them to make sacrifices I wouldn't if I could. (I'd prefer to drink beer and eat tarts and drink more beer than train that hard)
Using the doctor knows best logic, Casey could have been grounded for an upset tummy Sunday.
I'll agree to disagree.

I tell my boy to be careful in the wet and what does he do? He be a stupid boy. His daddy was at the track watching him on Sunday with Alberto, he give all of the team members a pinyata each that he bought from super mercado in dusseldorf. The team was happy and they give my boo boo the best tyres leaving that ugly hayden boy the off cuts. My boo boo is in the shower just now getting ready for me to tuck him in and read a bed time story. Mrs P xxx

I think the really interesting thing is the Pedrosa et al have gone public on his injuries.
Most world champions never tell you their problems. They build an aura of invincibility.
There are many examples: 1. Gardiner - raced many times with cracked vertabra and ankles. 2. Doohan - "i am not a pain killer sort of guy" 3. Schwanz - kept injury information to a minimum 4. Rainey - never told you anything even when he highsided his brains out.
My summation is that most racers would read those injuries as "business as usual". If he does not race he does want the WC bad enough.
Pedrosa is a tough nut so this will just put the focus on him to prove it again.

Although not a fan of Pedrosa, he is MotoGP championship material. It was only a little while ago that he broke both legs and after recovering, he got back into the championship and won. His major mistake last weekend was to go far too fast at the start, if he rode a little more conservatively, the whole race would have been different for the three title contenders, as both Stoner and Rossi both ended up doing far faster laps than Pedrosa. A real pity for the championship and a dumb mistake for Pedrosa. Cannot wait for this weekend's race, should be a blinder, with Edwards and Hayden hopefully pulling something special out for their fans. Don't discount Pedrosa, he's championship material.

That's one thing about Pedrosa he doesn't seem to like a battle he would rather get to the front go like a rocket but if he gets challenged, especially by Rossi, he seems to back off a bit and settle for the next highest place. Then every now and then he'll have a go depending on the track.Strange
