In the face of an overwhelming attack from reigning world champion Casey Stoner, Fiat Yamaha's main aim for this weekend's US Grand Prix seems to be for Valentino Rossi to hold on to as much of his 20 point lead over the Australian as possible, while awaiting the technical developments needed to take on the Ducati rider.
Im a Rossi fan but i cant see it myself,i think the Ducati will win easily, with Stoner hanging onto it. Also Toesland has got to start doing something, listening to his manager Burnett before a race it seems they fiddle with the bike too much, changing settings everytime they go out.

If they are heading to Laguna with the same package as Sachsenring, they probably wont be on the top step of the podium.
Rossi will be up there no worries, technical difficulties last two years.
I reckon Rossi will win it and have placed my bet. It's all in Rossi's favour--he's the underdog no doubt. Stoner and his fans have pretty much said he is going to win. If he does it will be no big deal as he is seen to have a huge advantage, if he doesn't then his season could well and truly be over, alot will happen at both Honda and Yam over the summer break. Danis the dark horse keeping out the limelight but I pretty much reckon being on michelins will scupper his chances.. Go VR!!! Go DP!!! GO JT!!

I dont doubt Rossi's ability to win for one second no matter what track... but to win in Laguna is going to be very tough for him!
This is actually getting kind of interesting - If stoner has (as they say) an extra 10 HP and Rossi can ride around six or so, on paper he should get a podium but probably not win. I hope Yamaha has something in their little black bag that they can pull out over the summer break. I just hope it's not another runaway - they get so boring to watch.
Yep, i can't see this weekend being anything other than a run away stoner win...just like last season..
i can see michelin struggling again though, last year they got trounced by bridgestone, and yes michelin have improved this season, but so have bridgestone..
Rossi is supposed to be announcing a new 2 year contract with Yamaha this weekend too, I wonder if they will finally go down the V4 route as a means of assuring his signature? It must have crossed his mind to change engine configurations to gain BHP
If Hayden got no mechanical problem or crash, we will see the 1st head to head battle between Hayden and Stoner.
At Laguna, Rossi has to fight Vermuelen. It is only if he managed running away from CEII. Yamaha is better bike now an Laguna is not for "I'm scared" riders.
Rossi has lost a step. Yeah, he can still pull a win outta the bag, but he's lost consistency. The Ducati/Stoner package is strong now, and Casey will need an off day not to win. But Hayden can take it too him unless the mysterious gremlins persist. I expect they will. And Hopkins is not here to run into him. Loris will be too far back in the pack and his Kamakazi days are over. Edwards looks strong, but will the tires hold up? Too bad Gibbers won't be in the mix.

I now with the powers rested in me( also that I am coming back to racing) am now transferring my CURSE that i will not win any race over to the much deserved guy on the Grid Casey Stoner. That he will never win another race.

Hi Jimmy,
Sorry if I was rather harsh on you in that last thread
I agree with your top 3 race prediction 100% I think Vale will be a lot closer this year on the bstones than he was on the Michellins last year. Lets hope he makes a close race of it for all race fans sakes!!!! Edwards is another to look out for. I hope Haydens luck changes for the better too as he really deserves some good luck especially in front of his home crowd.

come to think of it I must have passed the curse on to Nicky Hayden. No wonder he is not winning any races. HEY NICKY could you please pass the curse to Casey Stoner. Sorry Nicky about Assen. I know you were trying hard to beat your Teammate with the old Springer but maybe you should switch back to a Carburetor and flip your number to 96. How long has it been since you won a race . I know Marco Melandri has won some and he gets all the slack. He was 3rd at Laguna Seca last year. Wasn't that your home turf Dudes and Ducati is gonna kick him out what makes you think they might want you. Maybe to ride it further backwards

edward...please explain where rossi has lost his consistency...
other than assen and qatar he's been on the podium...and he is top of the championship which says he's been pretty 'consistent' considering he's only had 3 wins..
another 'think i know it all, but actually don't' poster..
if anyone other than rossi or vermulen is to give stoner a challange, it'll be edwards...but the michelin's need to work...if they don't what makes u think hayden will be up there..
Agreed Jimmy...Rossi and Co. are showing up to most of these tracks relatively blind with little set-up data using the Bridgestones. It's not a rider-consistency problem, it's a matter of having very little practice time to find a reliable race setting. Anybody looking closely will have noticed that Rossi has looked alarmingly off-the-pace during Friday-Saturday at the last few races, only to barely nail a good set-up on Sunday morning. These guys are working hard, getting themselves on or near the podium at nearly every round with tires that are still very new to them. I don't think there's another team in the paddock that could pull that off!

Yeah, he's leading the championship now, but for how long. The days of domination are over. Happens to them all. Get used to it.

Thanks for the info e war that truly is the most amazing record, I'll be surprised if anybody matches that.
When it's over it's over and that's a fact e war but you'd have to be a f-u-c-k-i-n numpty to say it when he is leading the championship...
