Casey Stoner was one of the last to go on track for the hour-long session, but like cream he rose quickly to the top, where he remained. could not have put it better myself,

Well done to Ducati, and to Stoner for hanging on to that beast of a machine - but is it entertainment anymore?
Remember 2005/6 when we had Rossi, Melandri, Capirossi, Gibernau, all fighting on the last laps of Races?
Why did idiot DORNA change the format to 800cc? To let Honda develop their bike for Dani Pedrosa who was tall small to ride the 990cc. Fine.....
But hen TC then took over, and the sport died. Hayden, Melandri can't ride the bike (previously great riders to watch), Gibernau retired, Capirex will soon. :(
We can only hope when loony bin Lorenzo has taken stock of the situation, and that he is as exciting in 2009 as he was at the start of 2008 before injury.

thank the lord for super soft race tyre's that only last about 6-7 laps..
we'll see if he can string a few 1.21.4's together in qualifying, until then...well lets stay calm hey stoner groupies =]
when VR won in the 125, the 250 and the 500 a lot of these races he did the same as CS does now . And we all like the way he did . Now CS does it in the same way and a lot is boring ???? C'mon fellows don't be so negative about CS, he's doing what he's paying for, just like VR .

Spot on, I stopped watching after Rossi's 3rd title and got into superbikes, it was Bayliss and Edwards moving to the 990s that made things interesting for me again.

So you can't tell the difference between a fight or clearing off in the distance?

No Morgue, just saying that the dominance Rossi/Honda had made the sport less interesting for me.

I tell you something mate, if we don't get some decent racing soon there will be hordes of people turning away from it. Do you really think people will stay glued to a procession of a handfull of technically advanced machines without the anticipated interaction between them? They'll fall asleep.

according to soup, Michelin brought tires for 105degree F. weather. MotoGP really needs to read the handwriting on the wall and do like every other series, spec tire. No wonder Dani went home. I'll bet a few others in the paddock would like to.

If you think it's bad now imagine what it will be like when the bikes are fullt developed, all going the same speed round the same line, the overtaking and action can only get less in this format.... I'll guess that the race will be over by lap 5...

It's like a soap opera in here, if Rossi wins a few races all is well for the championship, now that Stoner is winning again it's "boring". For me it's fascinating, he's doing every Rossi fans head in
You all should relax and enjoy the chase for the title or go and watch golf or tennis, do you want Stoner to slow down?
MotoGP will survive as it did when Doohan was dominating,as it did when Rossi put together a string of championships, it even survived Ago's total whitewashing in the 60-70's.
Enjoy the show folks..
Ciao..

Dorna have clearly screwed-up and failed to anticipate this. They better start limiting the effect of technology soon. This will not only improve the show but also limit costs. Stoner's good but he's not "0.7-1.0 seconds faster then Rossi" good. When he and Pedrosa were both on Hondas their performances were roughly equivalent. Now most of the time he destroys Pedrosa. This is simply overwhelming machinery advantage and it's an abomination to the sport.

How could Dorna have anticipated Stoner/Ducati's speed ?
All operate under the same rules... FFS.!!!

Don't care Dodger, you almost sound like you're trying to make excuses for the spectacle yourself. I've just turned off the practice, I'll still follow in the papers as I did in the 90s but I have to put other things off to fit it in and it's just not good enough to warrant it ... No disrespect to stoner his jobs to go fast but I don't get it at the moment... I'll make excuses to the wife and find ways to watch again in the future but there will need to be at least two peole involved in the race.. Goodnight and Godbless..

I'm in the group that reckon introducing 800s may have sounded the death knell for Moto GP. Usually races are more boring / less closely fought than they used to be and generally more predictable. That ain't good for Moto GP.
But I'm baffled and bemused (nice literaray touch that)why there's anxiety that the more the bikes evolve and the differences between 'em become less the recing will get worse. I figured it'd be closer fought not less, bit like the R6 cup. And if it didn't the main factor would be the rider, not the kit. [Yeah I know the kit de-skills the job to a degree, but that only goes so far - Otherwise Marco would be sitting on Casey's back wheel].
