According to Spanish sports website as.com five suggestions were put forward by the MotoGP riders to help reduce cornering speeds, during their meeting with Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and Riders' Safety Representative Franco Uncini on Saturday evening at Brno.
i agree Rico but i dont like the idea of single tyre rule. We must remember it was bridgestone who were struggling a few years back and there were no calls for a single tyre rule then was there?? i am all in favour of banning the electronics because it should be the rider in control of the bike!

Absolutely ban all electronic aids, it would make for a much more level playing field and then we'd see just how good riders are rather than having their talents (or lack of) masked by a bloody laptop!
Now that Honda is struggling, suddenly talks have started about a single tyre rule. The funny fact is that this rule has already been discussed and ruled out, I think last year.
Personally I'm in favor of the fly-by-wire ban and the single tyre as this will certainly boost up the racing spectacle a lot. Superbikes were raised from the dead after the control tyre rule was forced.
I like the idea floated (I think) by Kenny Roberts Snr- do nothing to the engines in terms of restrictions, but bring in maximum number of gears- 5 or even 4 would ensure manufacturers would go for maximum power spread and this would reduce top speeds and reduce need for traction control as the engines would be smoother.

Finally some intelligent conversation. I agree with Rico... 990, but spec tire and standard ECU is a must too.
Limited gears is interesting... maybe as a replacement for stock ECU.
The point is, I like any changes which take the variability out of third party suppliers (i.e. tires) and puts the whole of performance solely in the hands of the team.
Spec tire has been good for WSBK and F1, it's inevitable really.

Can someone tell me how a control tire slows down cornerspeed? Make it less sticky? Also, removing TC does not lower cornerspeed, it can only make the moment of getting on the gas hard a bigger gamble.
I like that idea of reducing the gearbox to 4 or 5 gears. It worked in the 60's when they limited them to 6 (from sometimes 20 gears). But again, how does it help lowering corner speed?

why can't they stop messing about with the rules,"if it isn't broke don't fix it". if they must meddle, just bring back the 990's

I think the best way of sorting out Moto Gp (and my sugestion will help slow cornering speeds) is to take away the traction control, it will also sort the men out from the boys. The only riders doing well in Moto GP are the ex 250 riders, as they can ride these bike like bigger 250's, the riders from other disciplins dont stand a chance. Look what its done for F1.
I feel strongly on this subject.
Thanks Mark

I think its time to admit the mistake and go back to 990cc with tc limits, still allow ignition retarding while downshifting but limit tc on acceleration making riders balance the throttle more .....either that or just ride souped-up minimoto's!! man that would be funny....silly but funny.
in all seriousness i would love a return to the good old days of tyre smoking, backing it in fun.

Sasha, as the crash.net commentator wrote, this whole "safety" issue is in fact a new effort to level the field and add up to the spectacle which has dwindled since the 800s were introduced.
I am a big fan of banning traction control - the power slides and skill needed to complete lap after lap is always amazing to watch - HOWEVER - most of the younger MotoGP riders have been "brought up" in the big class WITH traction control etc - there would be a huuuuuuuuuge learning curve and LOADS of crashes - which (from a safety perspective) is surely counter-productive.
If this does happen - Rossi will rule the roost - he is the king of "human" traction control!

I agree with ditching electronics... missing seeing the guys smoking the tyres! I dont think the 800s are the problem as if the electronics were removed they would not be exiting one corner or entering the next one as fast as they are now.
Single tyre rule... i dont agree with this idea, i think the characteristics of different tyres make watching the racing a bit more interesting (once Michelin get it sorted!). However if everyone jumps ship anyway may as well have a single tyre rule!
as much as i would like to see a ban on electronics, it would definitly increase the risk of more people getting hurt through highsiders and bad crashes. maybe a reduction to 600cc would help ?

As we know TC been around along time but back then it was nasty so the rider did'n trust it to much (this comes from Rob Mac)but now the TC is so much better and the rider can trust it ok some more than others .This to me seems to be one of the problems you car't just take it away but yes it needs looking at .I thing taking ignition retard while downshifting away will help to reduce corner speed and as for launch control this needs to stay the start is a very dangerous moment yes this can make the first corner very biz but still not as bad as hitting another rider becaues he's stalled. So what i'm saying is the electronics need sort but you car't just ban the lot.

No return to 990cc please, it would be a backward step. The knee-jerk is to want traction control banned too, and I'm inclined to agree, but it has been around a long time and has only really been made an issue since riders like Stoner have challenged Valentino (who uses TC himself, no matter what anyone says). Also, as others have said, riders have been 'brought' up with TC - do we really want to see more crashes ... though anything that would get slide king Garry McCoy back into MotoGP I suppose ...

990cc = good -> limit on top speed? This isn't a motorway. Increase weight of 800cc? No Remove fly by wire? If it removes lots of the aids (TC) - yes! Narrow tyre rims? Better to get rid of aids. Single control tyre - better to get rid of aids
waz - i think the stoner rossi thing is a coincedince with the change to 800cc and the need for more accurate tc with higher revving/peaky bikes. Im not saying ban tc thats impossible, but lets limit it and go back up to 990cc with the slow in fast out cornering that larger cc's allow. However the weight limit would need looking at.

Yep single tyre rule on 990's and as fast as phuck. job done.
