Casey Stoner could be forced to miss some of the remaining MotoGP rounds after it was revealed his scaphoid injury could warrant an earlier than planned operation.
Looks like Marco might have to take up the slack. But if the title is out of reach maybe better to write off the rest of the season to let the injury heal permanently.

Surely better to miss some of the last rounds of a championship thats beyond his reach and completing the tests of the 2009 bike ready for the new season?

Go Slow
Two reasons not to pull him out of races and sacrifice testing instead.
1, Commercial reasons with TV exposure for sponsors
2, When it all goes tits up next season, if he misses some testing he's already got the excuse in the bag!!!

If i was Casey i think i would have the op as soon as the championship was out of reach or at least have a chat with Dani about having Nicky do the winter development!!!!

Dave Racers have to miss races because of injury...why is this any different? I don't buy into the "Stoners always giving it excuses..." thing. Most times a rider is off form theres a reason for it in set up or tyres, it maybe there fault for not being able to dial the bike in, in time for the race. But why shouldn't they then say, the bike wasn't right when it wasn't.

Get some rest Casey. Rossi has this championship in the bag (14 point from 4 races should be pretty achievable even if he has to push the bike round considering the depleted grid), may as well just go for next year now. Cannot wait for a 5 way battle.

Somehow a Silver Medal is something alot of us will die for. Casey Stoner needs to understand that being 2nd is better than nothing at all. Consistently has shown that 2nd was never good enough for hims. Shanghai, Laguna and now he is throwing it away to Dani Pedrosa. Dani was glad to be 2nd last year. Nicky Hayden was 2nd in Indy. Jorge Lorenzo was smiling coming in 3rd. Its a sad
I think Mentally he has been broken by Rossi. And with Rossi nothing much to loose will be all out for wins on the next 4 races. I guess he doesn't want to race in Philip Island with Rossi.
It would be a wise decision not to wait to long with the operation, it is said to have a nominal healing time of rwo and a half months and he should be focussing on next season. It could mean losing his second spot in the championship to Dani Pedrosa and that might hurt his pride. Anyway I hope he gets well soon, good luck to him.

Have to say I'm also not impressed by this, you take decisions concerning injury privately and act accordingly, to come out and say we'll race on if we've a chance but if we can only come second we'll cut our losses and come back next year. This is supposed to be about the sport...
I don't remember anybody in the past calling it a day if they weren't winning... believe me he would race if there were 10 points in it....
I don't know what goes on at ducati but things are not A OK...

I guess what goes around comes around, he was probably laughing last year when Rossi lost 2nd to Pedrobot, now he will be facing the same dilemma. Ha!

@SARAN Racers don't want to be 2nd or 3rd, they all want to be 1st. Why else do they compete?!? Do you think any factory team out there wants to be 2nd? Would Rossi want to be 2nd?!?
