End of an era for Hayden, Pedrosa pressure?

Next weekend's Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi will be a significant event for both Nicky Hayden and Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa.

Ever the gentleman, Nicky still has kind words for Honda. I hope he carries some momentum from Indy and can get anther podium,or at least outperform Jockey Boy.

I can't work out what Honda are up to, there seems to be a total lack of Hondaness about them lately. The Honda I remeber would have sacked a rider who complained about the tyres they gave him & the team boss would have chopped off his own head for not getting results!

Come on HRC sort yourself out & remember what HRC are all about.

revsak you are so right.

The old HRC would never give into a rider demand. Especially when it involves one of thier "partners". The mid season switch was very unHonda-like.

Dani better enjoy the rest of the season. Seems to me that Honda are placing all of thier eggs in his basket next year. The pressure to win the title next year will be crushing. We will learn a lot about Pedrosa next year. It may be good or it may go horribly wrong.

Pressure's on the oompa loompa this weekend. Honda's home race, he's got the better engine and tyres, he must beat Hayden. Wonder who he will blame next if he's not successful...

The next two years will be interesting for Honda.

Pedrosa will probably get up to speed pretty quickly on the Stones. He's obviously fast, company notwithstanding. Shinya gave them a tiny headstart. He's top 5 this year and will be again in '09.

Dovi has the very real chance to relegate Pedrosa to Rider #2. If Dovi has more points by midseason, Pedrosa will get the Nicky treatment. Also, Kiyonari is rumored to be Honda's Great Japanese Hope. It's possible they will bring him up to the big leagues hoping to finally realize a Japanese Champion. There will be no room for Pedrosa at Repsol Honda if he doesn't deliver the Title in the next year or two.

Those are indeed some classy comments from Hayden....not a big fan: but I have total respect for him on and off the track. As for Pedrosa and company, the attempted boycott, tire switch and divided garage shows a complete lack of loyalty (and class) within the "team." That's all well and good if it all works out: but what if it doesn't, what then? The other question is who will develop the bike? Pedro can't or won't do it. If Dovi can succeed in testing, it will certainly help him in races. Add to the mix some exciting 250 riders coming up, Simoncelli and Barbera as well as Spies waiting in the wings....Dani's days at a (formerly) top team could be numbered. Cool by me.

Salamander

Don't think Dani will be felling to much pressure to beat Hayden, he only lost out to him once this season.

Hayden and his fan's constantly whinge about him bieng done over by Honda/Repsol/Dorna/Puig but the bottom line is he's just not been good enough on a 800. One podium in 15 month's is just not good enough when there's some one as good as Dovi doing so well on a satlite Honda.

Pedrosa is such a looser. Honda gives him everything an he gives Honda nothing. Rumours say that this is his last chance, otherwise... Go Hayden!

"2 years", agree with you, but according to Randy Mamola (he's superb at getting the inside news live in the pits) he was pretty sure when he said he'd heard Pedrosa has one more year to win the tite, to WIN it, plus he also said he'd overheard Elias' people telling Ducati that to keep him they would have to up his salary by $100,000 to keep him.

Anyhow, I think Dani will be under tremendous pressure next year, especially since Puig does something really stupid and sends the team into meltdown...

Although he has made some daft mistakes this year (he's the first to admit it and doesn't blame his bike) I think the ever-more-likeable Jorge Lorenzo will be major threat next year, not Pedrosa

me thinks pedrosa is somewhat like biaggi. a great 125cc and 250cc winner, but a great motogp looser. lorenzo seems to be more competitive on motogp than him...

Except that Biaggi was a RACER. Would love to see Lorenzo pushing Rossi and Stoner for the title next year. I don't see Honda being a factor: even so, '09 is shaping up to be a very interesting year!

@2 years

I think Dovi will probably be beating #2 regularly next year, but they'll still treat little #2 as the golden boy simply because he's Spanish. Hayden won the title, and look what kind of treatment that earned him from Repsol

Hmm looks like Pedrosa bashing is taking over from Stoner bashing and Rossi bashing on this site. Why can't you big up the riders you support rather than dissing the ones you don't? It's a long time since Pedrosa punted Hayden off and he hasn't done anything so bad since. He asked for Bridgestones last year. If the switch came mid-season this year that's hardly his fault. Why not ask for a better tyre? Michelin have been pathetic this year. Don't tell me how good Lorenzo is doing, he's crashed himself to bits highsiding on Michelins poor boy. Fair play to Nickey for taking everything with good grace. Fair play to Dani for adding a bit of competition to the first part of the season.

I agree that HRC is definitely too soft these days. I think it's Repsol that are forcing Honda to suck Dani's d*k!

Dani will do fine in Japan as he will stand tall it the paddock. If the pressure bothered him, it would not have effected his results when the Michelin tyres were not working, or when he switched, or when he was injured. Dani will do fine as he is best Spanish rider on the Repsol MotoGP team. You can not deny this. If the HRC equipment works properly, Dani will be victorious again. - Mrs P.
