MotoGP » Checa to replace Toseland?

Thursday, 6th September 2007

MotoGP veteran Carlos Checa could turn down the chance to become a Ducati test rider for a new career in World Superbikes next season.

Comment on this Story
Checa's current Honda LCR ride has already been given to Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet for 2008 and the 34-year-old has thus been left to consider his options. Checa revived his career with impressive performances while developing the Dunlop Tech 3 Yamaha project last year, but a tough season for all the satellite RC212V/Michelin teams has left him unable to shine on Casey Stoner's former ride.

Ducati, whom Checa rode for in 2005 - gaining two podiums - are keen to exploit the Spaniard's 14-year 500cc/MotoGP experience as a Desmosedici test rider, but the Spaniard isn't ready to retire and is in contention to replace James Toseland on a Ten Kate Honda in WSBK.

"I'd prefer to race in Superbikes than be a test rider for Ducati in MotoGP", AS reports Carlos as saying.

Checa has also been linked to Ducati's World Superbike team, alongside double world champion Troy Bayliss.
