A minute's silence for former triple 500cc race winner Norick Abe was held immediately after morning warm-up at Phillip Island on Sunday.

The popular 32-year-old Yamaha rider, who retired from MotoGP at the end of 2004, was killed in a road accident last weekend in Japan.
