Fiat Yamaha's
Colin Edwards is targeting a return to the podium in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix to end a dry spell that has lasted eight races.
The Texan Tornado has not featured in the top three of any
MotoGP since taking to the podium at
Donington Park in the height of summer, but is hoping that Yamaha's promising form from the pre-season test at Sepang will return to help push him up the order.
After another disappointing weekend in Australia, Edwards recalled joining team-mate
Valentino Rossi in dipping under Sepang's 990cc lap record during an extensive tyre workout and, despite not enjoying the best of luck at Sepang in recent years, is confident that he can return to the front this weekend even though rain is forecast for much of the event.
"Despite only finishing ninth, I did leave Phillip Island feeling like we salvaged something from the weekend because, at times, it was looking like it was going to be a lot worse," said Edwards, who has yet to finish higher than tenth in Malaysia, "I think we learnt something and, for Malaysia, Michelin are bringing some stuff that I know, from testing, works for me on this bike at this track. We just have to hope it works as well with the new surface. Hopefully, if we put it together with what we learnt about the bike in Australia, then we'll be in good shape.
