On the opening day of the 2008 MotoGP season, Dorna CEO Mr Carmelo Ezpeleta and QMMF President Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah jointly announced an extension of the contract between the two parties that will see grand prix racing stay at Losail International circuit until at least 2016.

The inaugural Qatar GP was held in 2004, while this weekend's event marks the first ever grand prix to be held at night.

"We are very proud to announce this deal and we look forward to welcoming MotoGP to Qatar in the years to come," said Mr. Al-Attiyah. "This is an important day for Qatar, for our federation and for the development of motorsport in our region.
