Jorge Lorenzo's replacement, Alex Debon, leapt forward from seventh on the provisional 250cc Qatar Grand Prix grid, to take pole position for the season-opening night race.

The 32-year-old class veteran edged out overnight pace setter Hector Barbera by 0.159secs for his first grand prix pole position, while Alvaro Bautista was a fraction slower in third.

Mike Kallio broke the Aprilia dominance with fourth for KTM, while Mattia Pasini heads row two.
