MotoGP » Pedrosa top 20, Rossi raises the bar.

Thursday, 10th April 2008

Dani Pedrosa's victory at Jerez was his 28th as a grand prix rider and moved him into the top 20 of all-time in terms of total grand prix race wins.

Comment on this Story
Pedrosa made his grand prix debut in 2001 and his current victory count is split five (MotoGP), 15 (250cc) and eight (125cc). The Repsol Honda rider now needs just one more win to equal the tally of grand prix veteran Loris Capirossi, who made his GP debut back in 1990!

Of the current MotoGP class, only Valentino Rossi has more GP wins than Pedrosa and Capirossi - with 88 over all three classes. That is still only good enough for third however, with Angel Nieto (90 wins) and Giacomo Agostini (122 wins) filling the top two positions.

Meanwhile, Rossi's second place finish behind Pedrosa at Jerez was the 100th time that he has stood on the podium in the premier-class. The five-time MotoGP world champion is the first rider to achieve a premier-class century and it will be a long time before he is challenged.

Capirossi - the next most successful rider still racing - has 41 premier-class podiums to his credit, placing him twelfth on the all-time 500cc/MotoGP podium list.

The next best current rider is 2006 world champion Nicky Hayden with 23 podiums, followed by Marco Melandri (19), Dani Pedrosa (18) and reigning world champion Casey stoner (16).
