MotoGP » Lorenzo takes triple pole glory!

Saturday, 12th April 2008

Jorge Lorenzo has continued his incredible MotoGP qualifying form by extending his perfect pole record to three out of three at Estoril on Saturday.

John Hopkins had hoped for a top five grid position with his Kawasaki, but was forced to settle for tenth, while Loris Capirossi emerged from a fast lowside fall - which sent his Rizla Suzuki cartwheeling through the gravel - to be the lead GSV-R qualifier in twelfth, one place ahead of Vermeulen.

Stoner may have been visibly unhappy with his qualifying position, but he was still 1.3secs faster than the next best Ducati rider - Toni Elias bouncing back from his Friday clutch failure, which fired debris onto his foot, to take 16th position on his Alice machine at a race he won in 2006.

Factory rider Marco Melandri looked no happier with his Desmosedici and will start just 17th, with Elias' team-mate Sylvain Guintoli 18th and last.
