Lorenzo surgery - will he, won't he?

MotoGP » Lorenzo surgery - will he, won't he?

Sunday, 13th April 2008

MotoGP World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo sent out mixed signals regarding a final decision on forearm surgery, after taking his debut MotoGP victory at Estoril on Sunday.

Despite finishing on the podium in all three of his MotoGP races to date, headlined by his superb Estoril victory, the 20-year-old feels his performances have been hampered by 'arm-pump'.

The problem only came to light after round two in Jerez, when it was suggested that stretching and massage would be enough to cure the painful lack of feeling in his arms, but Lorenzo now looks set to have an operation.

"I had some pain again in my arms today so tonight we will make a decision about whether or not I will have the operation before China," said Fiat Yamaha's new star.

But he also gave a much clearer response: "Tomorrow I will undergo an operation on my arm pump, but for now I will celebrate as if it was the last day on earth!"

With round four, the Chinese Grand Prix, not taking place until May 4, Lorenzo would have ample time to recover - from what is a relatively common operation for motorcycle racers - before heading to Shanghai.
