Friday, 27th June 2008

Simone Corsi takes pole position for Saturday's 125cc Dutch TT at Assen.

Morning rain may have given way to bright Friday afternoon sunshine at Assen, but - probably due to the previously laid rubber having been washed away - no rider in the top 15 was able to improve on their best Thursday time during the final 125cc qualifying session.

Simone Corsi, 23 points behind world championship leader Mike di Meglio, will therefore start Saturday's race from pole position - with Bradley Smith second, Joan Olive third and di Meglio completing the front row in fourth.

British Grand Prix winner Scott Redding will line-up in sixth, but was the fastest rider during the slower second session.

Stefan Bradl suffered a huge highside out of the final chicane with two minutes of Friday's half-hour session to go, bringing down a following rider in the process, but both were able to scramble to safety as others threaded their way between the debris.

Final qualifying - Assen:

1. Corsi (Aprilia) 1min 45.533secs
2. Smith (Aprilia) +0.340secs
3. Olive (Derbi) +0.363secs
4. di Meglio (Derbi) +0.364secs
5. Cortese (Aprilia) +0.402secs
6. Redding (Aprilia) +0.495secs
7. de Rosa (KTM) +0.572secs
8. Terol (Aprilia) +0.606secs
