The primary aim of the test, which was only available to riders not competing in the full world championship, was to provide tyre data for
Bridgestone and Michelin ahead of the inaugural
Red Bull Indianapolis GP on September 12-14.
Double AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies was the only rider testing at Indianapolis who will also be taking part in the grand prix weekend, having secured a wild-card ride with Rizla Suzuki for both Laguna Seca and Indianapolis.
Spies led the timesheets for much of the second day, but his advantage was gradually worn down by Bridgestone/Ducati test rider Niccolo Canepa - the fastest rider on day one - who eventually edged 0.0843secs ahead of the American.
Canepa's fastest lap was over one second under his Tuesday best, but top speeds were slower on day two. Canepa's Desmosedici reached 181.026 mph but Kawasaki's Olivier Jacque had clocked 186.002 mph on day one.
Suzuki test rider Nobuatsu Aoki was not listed as taking to the track on day two.
The next round of the 2008
MotoGP World Championship, the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring, takes place on July 13.
