"Ben gave us great feedback and even though he's a newcomer to
MotoGP it's quite obvious that that he's not lacking in experience," said Stuart Shenton, crew chief for Capirossi. "He didn't put a wheel wrong and the speed, stamina and consistency he showed was impressive. What Ben did here in Indianapolis should give him a great deal of confidence as he prepares for his upcoming wild-card rides."
Spies was the only rider at this week's test who will also take part in the grand prix weekend.
The outing marked the first true test for Indy's new 2.62-mile road course and Spies was happy with the way the track improved, providing more traction as the test advanced.
"This has always been a car track. I never thought motorcycles would be here," Spies said. "I think it's good for the city and this part of the U.S. I think it's a great area, and there's no better place to go when it comes to racing. I think it's going to be good come September and a lot of people show up. We've got a lot of fans. Most of them will be Americans, and they'll be rooting for John [Hopkins], Nicky [Hayden], me and Colin [Edwards]."
Spies will now prepare for perhaps the biggest weekend of his racing career so far, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on July 18-20, when he will ride in both the AMA Superbike Championship event - where he is on target for a third successive title - and the
Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
