On the same day that Michelin announced it would not bid to become the single MotoGP tyre supplier in 2009, the FIM has confirmed that rival Bridgestone has submitted a proposal.

Bridgestone, favourite to win the contract even before Michelin's announcement, appears to be the only tyre manufacturer to have submitted a proposal.

"The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Messrs. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, Chairman), Claude Danis (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), in the presence of Mr. Paul Butler (Secretary of the meeting), in a meeting held today at the circuit of Phillip Island, have been informed that Bridgestone has sent a proposal to FIM and Dorna to be the single tyre supplier in MotoGP for 2009," read an FIM statement. "This proposal will be studied and an announcement will be made on 18th of October 2008 in Sepang, Malaysia."

Bridgestone has won the last two MotoGP World Championships and already supplies 12 of the 18 MotoGP riders.

The single-tyre rule, which brings MotoGP in-line with the Formula One World Championship and World Superbike Championship, has been introduced 'for safety and cost reasons'.
