Newly crowned World Champion Daijiro Katoh rode a perfectly controlled race in tricky conditions to steal 250cc victory from Aprilia duo Tetsuya Harada and Roberto Locatelli after a hectic race-long battle.

Katoh's 11th win of the season underlines his dominance of the class this year and he steps up to the premier MotoGP category in 2002 in a rich vein of form, having recorded the most 250 victories ever over the season.

"I've never won wet race before," confessed Katoh. "I always hoped to end the season with a win and I'm delighted to have achieved the most wins of a 250 Championship season. It rained mid-race and the bike started sliding, then it dried a bit, but conditions were not easy."
