It has been announced that Ducati MotoGP test rider Vittoriano Guareschi will return to World Supersport action this season as a wild-card on the Bologna based company's new 749R.

Guareschi competed in WSS from 1996-1998 with Yamaha Belgarda, claiming four race wins and finishing championship runner-up twice, before spending two seasons in World Superbike, again with Yamaha, where he claimed two podiums.

The Italian then returned to Supersport - on a Ducati 748 - in 2001, finishing the season 16th after a best finish of 4th. Since 2002, Guareschi has been an official Ducati Corse test rider working mainly on the MotoGP project.

"We will enter Supersport veteran and current Ducati Desmosedici test rider Vittoriano Guareschi in selected (World Supersport) events, at the moment Monza and Imola are confirmed," stated Ducati Breil team director Paolo Ciabatti.

22-year-old Lorenzo Lanzi will be the team's regular race rider.
