Waiting game pays off for Edwards.

Monday, 25th February 2008

Carl Edwards scores Roush-Fenway Racing’s fourth straight Auto Club 500 victory in two-day California marathon.

Brian Vickers gave the #83 Red Bull Racing team a second straight top 15 result with a fine eleventh place effort with Kurt Busch recovering from running out of fuel and losing a lap to the leaders to finish 13th.

Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer, two drivers who featured strongly on Sunday but less so on Monday, were 15th and 19th respectively with Mark Martin 16th in his 700th career start and Juan Montoya 20th. McMurray’s late tyre gamble failed and he fell to 22nd while Bill Elliott finished his first race of the year for the Wood Brothers team in 26th.

Dario Franchitti improved one place on his Daytona finish and was 32nd, two laps behind Edwards while Earnhardt Jr and Hamlin, two of Sunday’s earliest casualties, soldiered home 40th and 41st, the last two cars running at the finish with only Mears and Hornish Jr missing from the list of classified finishers.

The Sprint Cup teams now have a stressful week ahead of them as they hurry back to their workshops, reload, turn round and head west again to Las Vegas for next weekend’s instalment.
