Q&A: Brian Vickers.

Thursday, 2nd February 2006

After missing the Daytona test because of a hernia operation, Hendrick Motorsports driver Brian Vickers got his first taste of action this season at the Las Vegas test, where he talked about what it would take for his #25 team to make the Chase for the Championship this year.

Then I just kind of bounced around a lot. I was in and out of the shop. I was supposed to have my surgery on the 3rd when I got back from New Year's, but I had strep throat, so they pushed me back to the 16th. I was back and forth between Charlotte and New York, mainly.

Q.
Last week Rick Hendrick said he wanted all four teams in the Chase. What is your team going to have to do to improve your standings and climb up in the points?

BRIAN VICKERS:
I think we just have to continue to do where we left off last year. The last couple of races we had a couple things go wrong, but for the most part the second half of the season we accumulated the second most points of anybody in the series for a pretty good stretch there. So if we can just do that, we'll have more than enough points and we'll be in plenty of good shape to accomplish that goal.

We've just got to start off better. At the beginning of the season last year is what really killed us. We knew it was coming, we knew it was going to be a hard time, we didn't have any new cars, the cars we had were not what they needed to be but you just cannot change everything overnight. This year we are starting out in a lot better position.

THE MODERATOR:
Brian, thanks.
