Road course specialists Boris Said and Ron Fellows have both lost their top ten finishes in Sunday's AMD at the Glen after NASCAR penalised them for last lap infractions.
Both Said, who finished sixth on the road and Fellows, who crossed the line in tenth place were relegated to the tail of the lead lap finishers after they missed the Bus Stop chicane and failed to slow to a stop before regaining the circuit on the 90th and final lap of the 2.45-mile Watkins Glen International circuit.
As a result Said drops to 31st with Fellows 32nd, undoing all the hard work put in by both Fellows and the #32 PPI Motorsport team as they try to rally back into the top 35 in owner points. Said meanwhile loses his third top ten finish in four starts for the #60 No Fear Racing team after his part in a chaotic final lap at the Bus Stop when he spun Ryan Newman out, triggering a subsequent collision between Kurt Busch and Jeff Burton.
In the midst of the chaos Fellows took avoiding action through the escape road, making up several place in the process while Newman, Burton and Busch all lost out.
Following the penalties, Scott Pruett was promoted to sixth position with Elliott Sadler seventh, Ryan Newman eighth, Kyle Busch gaining two places to finish ninth and Denny Hamlin completing the top ten. Burton was promoted to eleventh with Jeff Gordon rising to 13th and points leader Jimmie Johnson moving up from 19th to 17th.
