Road race veteran denied win by cautions - and lack of them - at Infineon.

Despite the setback, all was not lost as the team raced back to 23rd by lap 66 when Reed Sorenson crashed and brought out another caution. Fellows pitted for fuel only under the yellow and then had to conserve as much as possible in order to make it to the 110-lap mark without another stop. The call was based on the assumption that there would be another caution or two - a reasonable thought as, since 2001, there had been two caution periods beyond the 70-lap mark every year except one - but, unfortunately for the Canadian, 2007 proved to be an anomaly, with no further yellow flag periods. Having worked his way back to ninth, Fellows had to pit one more time - for less than two seconds worth of fuel.

“I have never seen it go green that long,” he said, “But, we just didn't get a caution. It was a long time on that last set of tyres.”
