Robert Yates to hand over control of his team to son Doug in 2008.

Comment on this Story
Championship winning team owner Robert Yates has announced that he will retire from the helm of his eponymous team at the end of the current season and will relinquish control to his son Doug.

Yates, whose team won a Nextel Cup Championship and several Daytona 500's with Dale Jarrett, has been unable to bring the #38 and #88 teams out of a two year slump and entered into an ownership partnership earlier this year with Michael Lanigan, Paul Newman and Carl Haas in an effort to revive fortunes.

The younger Yates will take over his fathers responsibilities on both the Cup and Busch operations at the end of the current season and will also try to work with the other team co-owners in a combined effort to get the two Ford's back to the front of the field.
