Tony Raines and Kyle Petty both claimed places in the field courtesy of owner points, taking 41st and 42nd ahead of John Andretti and pushing Dale Jarrett out. The veteran had posted the 42nd best time but, having used all his provisionals earlier in the year, will have to watch the race from the sidelines, along with Joe Nemechek, Brian Vickers, Sam Hornish Jr, Carl Long and Kirk Shelmerdine. Vickers' Red Bull team-mate AJ Allmendinger made the cut in 30th spot.
