New Hampshire International Speedway, one of the few remaining independently owned Nextel Cup venues has been bought by Speedway Motorsports Inc and will be renamed the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2008.

The flat one-mile oval becomes the seventh Cup Series track to come under the SMI umbrella alongside Atlanta, Bristol, Infineon Raceway, Lowe's Motor Speedway and Texas.

Current owners Bob and Gary Bahre are set to pocket an estimated $340 million from SMI in what was a cash deal and while the two Cup Series dates set for the track in 2008 will remain unchanged, rumours are already circulating that the venues Chase date could make way for a second race at Las Vegas.

The sale of NHIS, which opened in 1993 and has hosted at least one Cup Series race per year ever since, means that there are now just three Cup tracks, Dover, Pocono and Indianapolis that are not owned by either SMI or the International Speedway Corporation.
