Tyre test takes on added importance with Car of Tomorrow.

The Car of Tomorrow will make its maiden appearance at the high-banked 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway next month in a test that will have all Cup Series teams looking on anxiously.

Five drivers will take to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas oval on behalf of tyre suppliers Goodyear but while the main focus of the test will obviously be on tyre performance, every team in the garage will be keenly looking to see how the CoT, which was used on the smaller circuits and road courses this year, will fair on the new breed of ultra fast ‘cookie cutter' ovals.

Joe Gibbs Racing's Tony Stewart, Roush-Fenway's Matt Kenseth, Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton, Gillett-Evernham Motorsports Kasey Kahne and new Yates Racing signing Travis Kvapil will take part in the two-day test.

It will be a significant test for both the race teams and the speedway. This past year's Nextel Cup and Busch events were the first for each series since the speedway's banking was increased from 12 to 20 degrees and the 2008 Cup race will be the first time the new era chassis will be used at the venue.
