Eight laps remained when the race restarted with all eyes now back on Kyle Busch, who had got back up to third place despite slipping to 12th during the most recent round of stops. Burton, Biffle, Busch, Newman and Casey Mears made up the top five but less than two laps later it was Mears who found himself in the wall after he tried to block a fast approaching Stewart in turn one to bring out the seventh and final caution flag of the day, which had now turned into a cool, crisp spring evening.
This set up a three lap dash to the chequered flag with Burton taking the final restart ahead of Busch, Stewart, Newman, Earnhardt Jr and Kurt Busch. Kyle Busch dove low on Burton as soon as the green waved but he dipped below the out of bounds line and had to drop back, which in turn spoiled Earnhardt Jr's run. This allowed Stewart, with help from the two Penske Dodge's to grab the lead on the high line and he continued to lead as the field took the white flag.
The field roared onto the back straight for the final time with Stewart half a car length ahead of Kyle Busch but, as soon as he was clear of his teammate Stewart moved low to try and protect the low line and block the #18. This gave the two Penske Dodge's the perfect opportunity to squeeze through on the high line and, thanks to a massive shove from Kurt, Newman headed into turn three ahead. Coming out of turn four Newman was able to cross over and hug the low grove with Stewart and Kurt Busch side by side. Although Stewart had momentum he could not pass the Penske steamroller on the run to the flag with Newman crossing the line a car length ahead of his teammate who, in turn, was half a car length ahead of Stewart.
