Kyle Busch finished second in last weekend's season opening Craftsman Truck Series race at
Daytona. He then went on to finish second in the Nationwide Series race and fourth in the Daytona 500 after dominating much of the race. On Saturday at the Auto Club Speedway in California Busch finally got the win to kick start his 2008 season by soundly trouncing the field in the San Bernadino County 200.
The Billy Ballew Motorsports driver led 51 of the 100 laps around the two-mile oval to beat Daytona winner Todd Bodine to the chequered flag by more than one second. Johnny Benson, who finished third at Daytona, repeated that effort with another third in California with Terry Cook and defending series champion Ron Hornaday completing the top five.
Ted Musgrave, Busch's fellow Cup Series interloper Travis Kvapil, Mike Skinner, rising star Colin Braun and his fellow rookie Phillip McGilton rounded out the top ten.
After watching his Sprint Cup Series hopes dashed by the weather on Friday,
Red Bull Racing's AJ Allmendinger finished 17th as the last Truck on the lead lap.
Saturday's race took place under laden skies and there are already growing fears that the evening's Nationwide Series race and possibly Sunday's Cup race could fall victim to the weather.
