Valvoline Racing has announced that the world-renowned oil brand will be the primary sponsor on Robby Gordon's #7 Dodge Charger in this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The recognisable red, white and blue Valvoline colours will be showcased on the hood, rear-quarter panel and rear bumper of Gordon's Dodge in Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500, providing a little good news for the beleaguered all-rounder, who was fined points at the season-opener for the error of having the wrong badging on his car.

"Robby Gordon is a racing original," said Valvoline director of brand management John Stotz explained, "It's exciting to have Robby carry the Valvoline red, white and blue on the car this weekend and add him to the numerous teams with Valvoline, not only on the car, but in the car. We've won races together in the past and we know Robby will give Valvoline and fans his best at Atlanta."

Gordon's team is owned by Robby Gordon Motorsports, which has an affiliation with Gillett Evernham Motorsports.

"I've competed in many forms of racing and it is clearly evident that Valvoline has a rich and successful history in the motorsports world," said the veteran, who finished eighth in the season-opening Daytona 500 prior to being stripped of his points, "I am proud to drive the Valvoline Dodge Charger in Atlanta and look forward to posting another strong finish for our #7 team."

Gordon joins the Valvoline team of drivers, which also includes the current line-ups at Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Roush Fenway Racing in NASCAR and the elite NHRA teams of Don Schumacher Racing and David Powers Motorsports.
