Struggling single car Sprint Cup operation BAM Racing has boosted its chances of making it into the top 35 in team standings by electing to switch manufacturers from Dodge to Toyota and align itself with Bill Davis Racing.
The switch from Dodge to Toyota will take place in time for this weekend's race at the Martinsville Speedway with the #49 team also picking up a potentially lucrative sponsorship deal with the small business arm of Microsoft.
Veteran driver Ken Schrader goes into the sixth round of the 2008 season sitting 42nd in the championship and is already in danger of losing touch with the scrap for the 35th and final ‘guaranteed' slot in the standings having failed to qualify for three of the opening five races of the season.
By moving to the Toyota Camry and forming a relationship with Bill Davis Racing BAM is almost certainly likely to receive more manufacturer support than it enjoyed with Dodge, whose products the team has used since breaking onto the Cup Series scene with lady driver Shawna Robinson in 2002.
Following the demise the of #27 Bill Davis team, Beth-Ann Morgenthau's team becomes the tenth Cup outfit using the Toyota Camry alongside the three car teams from Joe Gibbs and Michael Waltrip,
Red Bull Racing's two cars and the singleton surviving entry from Bill Davis Racing.
