Richard Childress, whose three existing teams finished 1-2-3 two weeks ago at the Bristol Motor Speedway, has finally got his wish when he confirmed that he had a sponsor in place to allow him to expand to four full-time Sprint Cup teams in 2009.
General Mills, which has been the primary sponsor for the famous #43 Petty Enterprises team through its Cheerios brand for the past eight years, will shift to the new #33 RCR team at the start of the 2009 season with current #43 driver Bobby Labonte rumoured to be on Childress' shortlist for the drive itself.
“RCR is honoured to represent General Mills and its Cheerios, Hamburger Helper and many other brands in the NASCAR Cup Series," said team boss Childress. “The partnership is another step in RCR's continued association with blue-chip global brands and companies.
The company will continue to sponsor Petty Enterprises until the end of the 2008 season.
