Sunday, 13th April 2008

Reigning Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson scores his first win of 2008 with fuel mileage gamble in Phoenix.

Jeff Gordon was never a major factor in the hunt for victory and wasn't pleased with 13th place, still feeling that something was fundamentally amiss with his #24 Hendrick Chevrolet while both Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart lost even more ground on their final stops when their cars refused to re-fire after taking fuel. Harvick was classified 18th with Stewart 21st.

Sam Hornish Jr enjoyed a decent run to 19th position although it was another struggle for Dario Franchitti and Patrick Carpentier who could do no better than 30th and 33rd respectively, not good enough to get their teams into the top 35 in owner points ahead of the next round in the championship in two weeks time at Talladega.
