Eighteen-year-old Joey Logano has made Nationwide Series history after winning in just his third start on Saturday night at the Kentucky Speedway.
Logano became the youngest winner in series history at just 18 years and three weeks when he took the chequered flag in Saturday night's Meijer 300, dominating the second half of the race after catching and passing Kyle Busch prior to a race ending crash for his Joe Gibbs Racing stablemate.
Although the JGR team have, by general consent, had a significant advantage over the competition for most of the year in the Nationwide Series, Logano's victory still adds more lustre to an already bright star and the teenager, discovered at the age of 15 by Mark Martin, is already tipped for a Cup Series debut before the end of the season.
Once again the race was dominated by Gibbs cars with Busch leading 85 of the first 160 laps despite starting from the back of the grid after missing qualifying due to his Cup commitments in Michigan and Logano ending the day with a total of 76 laps at the head of the field.
Scott Wimmer and Mike Wallace chased Logano as hard as they could in the closing laps but it was in vain as Logano cruised home with Brad Keselowski and Brian Clauson completing the top five.
Australian Marcos Ambrose finished sixth ahead of David Ragan, Mike Bliss, points leader Clint Bowyer and Jason Keller.
