The quiet Kiwi, Bruce Anstey eclipsed even 12 times TT winner John McGuinness to win the PokerStars Superstock race and set a new lap record at the Isle of Man TT Centenary aboard his Relentless Suzuki.
Second place went the John McGuinness on the HM Plant Honda and his team-mate Ian Hutchinson took third place.
The rider that Anstey was most concerned with was Martin Finnegan on the MV Agusta as he explained, “I knew from the start I had to put in a good lap and I wanted to get clear of Martin Finnegan. I was disappointed with the Superbike race yesterday so that makes up for it! My plan was pass Finnegan and then I caught John and saw his pit board saying P2.”
Anstey has dominated on the Superstock machines for a number of years now as he went on to say, “The bike was working well and the top speeds are just getting faster. I passed Adrian, my team-mate early on and he was going slow so I don't know what happened there. I've always raced production bikes so I think that is why I get on well with the Stock machines. The 600 is looking good, it is flying I'll take it out for a run tonight but it is looking good. I've a lot of fans over here I keep hearing Aussie accents.”
McGuinness was no match for Anstey saying, “I tried hard out there and I knew that Martin was fast on the MV. I got a good start and I couldn't have ridden any harder to Glen Helen, then I saw my pit board and it said P2 so that deflated me a bit. I pushed hard and I enjoyed it, the bike is good enough to win I just wasn't. Bruce pulled our pants down on the first lap! When Bruce passed me I held onto him over the Mountain and that dragged me away from Hutchy. I did my best, the sun was shining, there were lots of people watching and Bruce was just the super Superstocker”
Hutchinson was also disappointed, “During Monday's raced I didn't give enough on the first two laps. I gave it all in that race and at my first board I was 5secs down so like John said it is a bit deflating. My boards said +20 and -20 all race so I was in no mans land all race again.”
