Gary Johnson aboard his Speedfreaks Yamaha made his TT debut at the Centenary event and made quite an impact by achieving a 12th place finish in the Superstock race and 16th in the Senior TT.
Johnson, former Supersport Cup champion in 2005, took to the roads for the first time this year at the North West 200 where he finished in 10th place in the Superstock race. He was somewhat eclipsed at the TT by new comers like Steve Plater and Keith Amor who had Superbikes at their disposal whereas Johnson results came on a Superstock machine.
The first race of TT week was the Bennetts Superbike race where Johnson finished 20th and was pleased with his result but he was aware that the Superstock bikes were down on the full blown Superbikes, In the Superbike race you are up against as the bigger teams who are putting new tyres in, and our bikes are lacking on the fuel where they are running big tanks, so to get the position we did was brilliant.
Next up was the PokerStars Superstock race yielded the best result of the week with Johnson scoring a 12th place, It was mega. The Superstock result was the one that I wanted because that is what I've come on for the full duration. I beat the people I needed to beat; I showed them a clean pair of heels!
The final race of the week was the PokerStars Senior TT and the consistent results continued with Johnson finishing 16th saying, It was a great race out there but it was foggy on the mountain and lack of knowledge made it harder and my visors were steaming up which was unfortunate. It was real good, it was smooth out there, and well I felt smooth. My times were not as good as what I wanted but we had made alterations to the bike, tried putting on slick tyres which I've never used before and it upset the handling a bit but all in all a great race and a great position.
