Nathan Freke will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Oulton Park next weekend in rounds nine and ten of the championship season

Freke will race the Porsche Motorsport entry as part of the links between the Carrera Cup GB and the McLaren/Autosport/BRDC Young Driver Award, with the 23-year-old having been one of the six finalists for the award after winning the 2006 UK Formula Ford title.

"I drove the Porsche as part of the Young Driver finals and I was absolutely amazed - I loved it," he said. "I maybe need to think about sports and GT cars as a career option, so this is a big opportunity for me."

The pair of races at Oulton Park will be Freke's first races of 2007 after plans to race in Formula Atlantic in America faltered and he said he was hopeful that the one-off outing would put him in the shop window.

"I'm still hoping to do something over there [America] this year, but our main focus is now finding a single-seater budget for 2008,” he said. “But I want to do well in the Porsche and try and open some doors, so it's going to be quite an important weekend for me."

However, Freke knows that the opposition will be strong, with former single-seater aces Steven Kane and James Sutton currently setting the Carrera Cup pace with former BTCC champion Tim Harvey.

"It's going to be very tough and I'm short on experience in the car,” he said. “But I'll give it my all and hope to get up amongst the quicker guys. I've only raced at Oulton Park once, but I absolutely loved it. It's a real drivers' circuit."
