The car used by the late Graham Hill for the
Formula 1 season some 35 years ago will return to action this weekend when it lines up on the grid at the
Silverstone Classic.
Hill, father of the current BRDC president
Damon Hill, endured a difficult season with the Shadow DN1 having set up his own team for the 1973 season finishing inside the top ten on just two occasions during a campaign in which he failed to score a point.
Since then, the car has done next to no running and has been based in the United States, but having been acquired by Daryl Taylor, the car will now make its first race appearance since the 1973 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen during the Classic weekend.
We bought it towards the end of last year in America and it's been quite a project, Taylor said. It had been stored in the States and, apart from a few demonstration runs, hadn't been used since Graham Hill raced it in 1973.
I'll be the first person other than Graham Hill to race the car. It is quite an honour. I could probably have bought cheaper or more competitive cars, but I'd never have had the chance to buy something like that again.
