The event’s shown it can all be compacted into one day and that’s a cost saving for the competitors. There’s very little service and you need to be mindful that they’re Group N cars which do break and you’ve got to carry any problem with you through a lot of stages so there’ll be some action out there. They’re the fastest forests in Europe and these boys are going to trying hard. There’s a lot to won and lost in Yorkshire.
Q:
It’s been a bit of a season of highs and lows this year for you. How have you enjoyed it?
JM:
The big kick really was the suspension breaking on the
Jim Clark because we would have been well out in the lead of the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge. At the moment we’re level pegged with Gwyndaf, with Stuart Jones only one point behind. That said, you can drop one score. I’m mindful that I still don’t want to drop any scores but I’m one of the only Mitsubishi drivers not to have dropped a score yet. Both Stuart and Gwyndaf know they cannot afford to drop any more or have any problems. It’s a little bit in the lap of the gods as it’s Group N, but it certainly keeps it exciting for everybody.
Q:
So this Saturday, how you going to go?
JM:
I’m going to go hard. We had a good test on Wednesday. The big thing is to get the confidence in the very high speed corners because the time is gained, big time, in the high speed stuff, the fourth and fifth gear stuff where you keep it in. Everything will be left at the start line as far as brains are concerned and we’ll be on it!
